I’m a staunch believer that life begins and would support the proposed Amendment (post 34).

That Amendment isn’t gonna happen. I know that. I also know that Trump and the RNC leaving it up to the States is not going to solve our National split on abortions either.

Abortion - like Slavery - cannot be determined State by State. We had a Civil War on Slavery and I believe abortion is the primary issue that might drive us into CWII.

You’re missing the significance of For being overturned.

You’re missing the bus, R2.

Upon further research I retract my wrong statement with regret and remorse for stating such.

I had Hawley mixed up with someone else who I heard with my own ears but misattributed.

My bad.

Apologies.

In fact it seems I couldn't have been more wrong about Hawley, he seems like about the most conservative patriotic guy out there.

I’ve heard that excuse so many times, but the people who say it actually make it worse and worse. How can you win hearts and minds when you keep losing it?

Do you mean Roe?

No, I get the significance of that. And I also deeply acknowledge and appreciate Trump’s 3 SCOTUS appointments that made Dobbs possible.

But what I’m not happy with is Trump and the RNC ignoring the fact that this is still a national issue and therefore they are mistaken.

Abortion will remain an issue long into the future, but as things stand now, I think Republicans should support 100% the return of the issue to the states. And they should fight with every means at their disposal any attempt by the Dims to legislate abortion at the federal level.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was tempted to reply in my usual way - with tons of snark...

But that would not be nice. I’m glad you checked further.

It should never have been a national issue in the first place.

Wrongly-decided, corruptly-reasoned Roe artificially made it a national issue.

People need to fight this locally again, now that Roe is gone.

It should never have been a national issue in the first place.

That's exactly what southern states said pre-1860. They were wrong and so are you. Abortion is the top issue for 1 out of every 8 Americans. And probably one of the top 3 issues for over half Americans.

This was, is and will always be a prominent national issue. Punting it down to the states is a cop out.

How come game marriage is a federal issue but abortion isn’t?

Or conversely, in Ohio where the state voted on looser to no restrictions.

it can cut both ways.

Frankly, I'm surprised OH went as extreme as they did.

I thought most people wanted *some* restrictions.

“It’s far easier to work against abortion on the local level and then move on to help other states to support life than to try to eliminate abortion or regulate it on a national level.”

We have myopic people on FR who absolutely reject voting on the local level as a means of political change. All they care about is voting for congress and the president. These people are the reason why hard core leftists run school boards in conservative districts.

Agreed, it was a knee jerk reaction.

It’s quite naturally already in the states, right now. No punting took place.
