I don't criticize the zeal to become watchdogs over government. That's a good thing. The trouble is it became a very one-sided watch-doggery.
Turns out, Woodward and Bernstein were NOT the dogged reporters and investigators they were painted out to be.
Instead, the "Deep Throat" informant who supplied all the details was Mark Felt, Deputy FBI Director who hated Richard Nixon for not hiring Felt to replace J Edgar Hoover as the FBI Director. In short, Felt fed all the Watergate information to the Washington Post on a silver platter.
Fast forward a few decades and the corruption of the media has grown deeper and deeper -- to the point where reporters shut their lips and deny that our President's mental faculties have significantly declined.
