The ‘Mouse Shuffle,’ A 2024 Workplace Trend, Has Employers Scratching Their Heads
Forbes ^ | 07/03/2024 | Bryan Robinson, Ph.D.

Since the pandemic, employers have been engaging in certain types of quiet maneuvering like “quiet cutting” and employee surveillance to assuage the needs of business and stabilize their workforce. A recent study reveals that 79% of employees say they’re under pressure to perform to “show” they’re working. Many workers are retaliating with quiet workaround tactics of their own such as “quiet quitting,” “coffee badging,” “quiet vacationing” and “shadow policies.”

First, It Was Productivity Theater As the quiet tug-of-war continues, so does the suspicion and mistrust on both sides. Poor workplace culture also has given rise to resenteeism—a trend similar to “quiet quitting”—when resentful employees get the bare minimum done due to burnout and feeling they're underappreciated. They realize they have to stay at their current job because of financial obligations and responsibilities, but they're not ready to leave the position for one reason or another. This unproductive mentality, dubbed the ultimate productivity killer, is affecting small businesses and large companies nationwide.

The author, Brian Robertson is clearly writing to pay for his "Piled High and Deep" (PhD) certificate on his wall.

From the very first line of the article: Since the pandemic...

Just no. This has been around for decades and has nothing to do with the Scamdemic.

What it shows is that 75% or more employees are liabilities and completely useless to companies.

Elon Musk famously laid off 80% of Twitter staff. After predictions that Twitter would be unable to function, it’s chugging away fine.

People have been fired for this. The software or usb devices are detectable to system administrators.

Need someone more physical like this to not be detected.

Lots of people have two work from home jobs at the same time and they get paid a 40 hour salary for both.

When I worked as first-line supervisor at a nuke power plant, there was the term LARA ie as ‘Little As Reasonably Acceptable’ regarding work in a radiation area. IOW you wanted your employees to get as little rad as was reasonably acceptable.

When I moved to another industry, I coined some employees as LARAs bec they accomplished as Little As Reasonably Acceptable. Gave one a 0.5% raise when bogey was 3.5%. Others I was able to demote and other LARAs were put into unconformable positions w limited ability to exercise any choice to accomplish their job.
