Thanks for completing that. I think I read it on a dust jacket while browsing a book store. didn’t know it would be in Bartlett’s.

Sickened and appalled, no doubt.

Jefferson demonstrated why some called him, “The American Sphinx”.

This is quite the read.

I wonder whether the Louisiana purchase was undertaken under general welfare reasoning

Well, since Congress was not in session and available to act on the opportunity, Jefferson, in order to allow Congress to later exercise its discretion, had to step in and secure the territory. Congress could always have disposed of the land later, had it wanted. But the same people who would never object to the purchase of the Alaska territory have never stopped bitching about it because, in their opinion, the annexation expanded the wrong section of the country.

Just attended a reading of the Declaration of Independence at the local court house (an annual event for many years organized by the local chapters of the DAR and the SAR). Listening to the offenses of which King George was accused made me think how trivial many of them were compared to what we allow the federal government to do nowadays. What would the Founding Fathers think of present-day Americans?

Thank Lincoln and his tax and spend liberals. He changed the relationship between the states and the Federal government.

Happy Secession Day!

Exactly correct— the “General Welfare” has been stretched into TOTAL Welfare delivered (doled out) to the undeserving and non-taxpaying non-productive elements of States signed to the “Compact”.

Why? Because the corrupt liberal party has learned how to bribe people to stay in power.

They use that power to get rich. Look at AOC for example.

The liberals make a lot of their money from controlling the government. The Biden family is a prime example.

Nobody cares about the people on welfare beyond their use as a tool to get into power and get rich.

As others have said in the past, if Illegal immigrants voted Republican, the Democrats would be on the border building the wall themselves.

It's all about political power, because that's how they get money.

The mercantile Hamilton (who was a bastard from the Caribbean trying to “be” somebody) had his hands all over this. The Bank did much to ruin our Constitutional Republic, as it does now. Chartered by Congress, and the 1913 Fed was renewed in 2013 for another 100 years— by obamaumao the first (a creation of the Saud/Muslim Brotherhood).

I keep telling people this abusive overwhelming government is the foreordained consequence of Hamiltonian principles of government.

The war from the beginning was between Jeffersonian philosophy of government, and Hamiltonian.
