When was the year France gave us the Statue of Liberty? I ask because July 4, 1776 was not the formation of the United States of America. It was the date the 13 Colonies declared formal war on Great Britain. The USA didn't exist until September 1787 when the Colonies ratified the Constitution at the Continental Convention in Philadelphia.
