The good news -- I guess -- is that Beryl is forecast to get weaker even before crossing the Yucatan peninsula. Then it's just a matter of how slowly it will be moving once re-emerging over the Gulf before hitting Mexico or Texas.

Here's the current forecast guidance for winds:

INIT 01/1500Z 12.4N 61.3W 120 KT 140 MPH
 12H 02/0000Z 13.3N 64.1W 125 KT 145 MPH
 24H 02/1200Z 14.5N 67.8W 125 KT 145 MPH
 36H 03/0000Z 15.6N 71.7W 110 KT 125 MPH
 48H 03/1200Z 16.4N 75.6W 95 KT 110 MPH
 60H 04/0000Z 17.2N 79.2W 90 KT 105 MPH
 72H 04/1200Z 17.8N 82.6W 80 KT 90 MPH
