I’ve never really understood the prominence of Badminton as a sport in Asia.

I can see it. The game originated in India among British expatriates, and high-level play calls for a great deal of speed, agility, and coordination, not unlike table tennis.

One of my nephews was a nationally ranked badminton player in high school, but lost interest in the game in college. Badminton at that level is a far cry from the backyard amusement that most of us remember from childhood.

I came here from the UK, I was surprised at the American view of Badminton. First, those around me insisted it was called ‘Badmitton’. Second, learning their understanding of it being some ‘backyard amusement’ game - vs. the incredibly challenging level of competition I used to engage in. You don’t see it on TV here, most seem to have never seen competitive play.
