Bodycam video shows the teen taking off and running from already being detained by police. Same video shows ONE SHOT fired by a cop who then picked up the weapon the teen flashed. A Glock lookalike from what I could see. After clearing and inspecting it the cop mentioned "it's a 22". In reality it was a pellet gun or CO2 Umarex G19, I guess. Either way, it looks like a real gun.
I looked for a CO2 Umarex G19 pistol, all I saw were .177 caliber, not 22 caliber. Big difference in bullet weight. But is potentially lethal under some circumstances.
I’m terribly sorry the young man lost his life needlessly and so very young. Cannot help thinking about my childhood. I am sad and pray for his family. Nothing is as sad as losing a child.
I grew up on a farm. Our house was almost a mile to nearest neighbor’s house. 4 miles from town.
First time I ever fired a rifle, was setting in my father’s lap in a pasture looking out the window. He showed me how to hold and aim the rifle, It was a 39-A Original Golden Marlin 22 rim fire rifle. Dad never lost his touch with rifle. The last deer he killed was 400 years with a 30-06 Remington 700 BDL with 3-9 scope. Not sure what year he did that, my brother was hunting with him when he did. Dad died 3 years ago at 94. He was a great man. Not a day goes by that I don’t think how it was when I was young, hard work, and hunting and fishing.
Not sure how old I was(7-8) when my brother and I got daisy pump action BB guns. We shot lots of birds with them.
Another Christmas (10?), my brother and I got Crossman 400 Repeater .22 caliber bolt action 10 shot CO2 pellet guns (held 2 CO2 charges). They are lethal. My brother and I killed lots of rabbits and other critters. I still have that rifle. Now I have some pellets for them that weigh 28.7 gr. (standard 22 caliber bullets weigh 40 grains) The velocity is higher on the standard 22 caliber cartridge but not much faster.
When I was 12 I got my first 20 gauge single shot shotgun. My brother and I hunted with the men from that point out. We load a lot of 20 gauge ammo and shot a lot. The old guys (older than dad) could not believe how good we shot dove and quail. For quail you had to be quick even hunting with a dog. We had a series of great bird dogs. I still have that Shotgun.
We went on from there. I’m 76 now, still like to shoot and reload.
Dad was an armorer at a point during WWII, he serviced Quad 50’s and Bofors.
