Dick Van Dyke on Ageist Knocks Against Joe Biden: “I’ve Got All My Marbles, and I’m Old Enough to Be His Father”
Hollywood Reporter ^ | 6/27/2024 | Nicole Fell

Dick Van Dyke weighed in on whom he’ll be supporting in the upcoming election on a recent episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast.

“I’m going to support [Joe] Biden,” the 98-year-old actor, who publicly supported Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential bid four years ago, told THR‘s Scott Feinberg about the November election.

When asked if he felt if it was fair to criticize President Biden for his age, Van Dyke made it clear he wasn’t so concerned about that. “I’ve got all my marbles, and I’m old enough to be his father,” the iconic actor said. “I’m actually old enough in years to be his father. So I’m not worried about it.”

Van Dyke did, however, express some concern about Biden’s performance in the upcoming presidential debate, noting that he feels the president has “difficulty debating.”

The Mary Poppins star also looked back on meeting both former President Donald Trump and Biden for the first time. “I met him at a party out here in Malibu, before he was in politics,” Van Dyke said about Trump.

“He was in a Hawaiian shirt, open, big belly, all nice and tan. Couple of gold chains hanging around his neck, and a blonde on his arm. I’ll be charitable and say she was 20,” he continued. “And he looked down on me like, ‘Who are you?'”

Van Dyke had more firm words for the former president, adding he’s “never seen him laugh.” When asked what the actor thought that said about a person, Van Dyke replied: “Well, he is disturbed.”

“I met Joe Biden,” Van Dyke said of his introduction to the president. “And I said, ‘I used to be as tall as you are.’ He said, ‘I used to have hair like you.’ I liked him right away.”

If Dick Van Dyke can say that about Biden, then his mental fitness is very questionable too.

If Dick Van Dyke voted for Biden at any time during Biden’s political career, then, his mental capacity should have been questioned then too.

Biden’s mental age was questionable before the 2016 election, and if mental age is a sign of old age, then, Joe was old enough in 2016 to be Dick Van Dyke’s father.

But, Joe never had the mental capacity to be in politics or government at any time during his lifetime.

Age is irrelevant, but comparing yourself to Biden doesn’t have any relevance either.

Dickie should have paid some passerby to confront President Trump and point to Van Dyke and say, “Do You Know Who That is?Haven’t you seen “Mary Poppins?”

Both by watching various members of my family and thinking back to my 20+ years in "front line" medicine I can say that I've encountered 90 year olds who are as sharp as can be and 65 year olds who had experienced dramatic deterioration in their mental/intellectual capabilities.

There are two such examples in my own family. I had a 92 year old aunt who, although she showed her age in terms of things like mobility, she was as sharp and clear mentally as any 45 year old MIT professor. OTOH,my late sister-in-law was first diagnosed with early onset dementia at 66 and by the time she reached 70 she didn't even recognize her kids or grand kids. She died at 72...in a nursing home.

Joe stinks, and has stunk for many years, but what is being done to circumvent the primary process and democracy stinks worse than Joe’s Depends.

SO? I am 77 and can pass a medicare test as I did two weeks ago. A girl in school my age was so senile at age 55 she had to be put in a home.
Each is different. Biden is senile. Get used to it.

Hey Dick, have you had as many brain aneurysms and brain surgeries as Biden has had?

Looks like Biden has secured the one 98 year-old white male former actor vote.

Golly Dick that’s all nice and all, but you’re not president and the problem is with Joe and as far as mrbles go his marble sack has a huge hole in it and he’s lost almost all of his. I am so tired of wealthy socialist who don’t care what it happening to middle and lower Americans because they will never be touched by the left’s insane behavior.

It’s not his age. It’s not even his physical infirmities - he could do as much damage to the economy as FDR did from a wheelchair. It’s the combination of his senility, leftism and complete lack of morals.

I would say he’s not SHARP MENTALLY either.

Do you have dementia, dick? If the answer is no, there’s your problem. It’s not about age… It’s about cognitive abilities and dementia
