Why don't people disclose STIs to a sexual partner? Stigma has a lot to do with it
The Conversation (Australia) ^ | June 16, 2024 | Alexandra James and Jennifer Power

Globally, more than 1 million curable sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are contracted every day in people aged 15–49. These include chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis, among others.

In Australia, it’s estimated one in six people will receive an STI diagnosis in their lifetime – and the numbers are going up.

Very few common infections are stigmatised in the way STIs are, which makes them a particularly complex public health problem. Stigma perpetuates shame and anxiety among those diagnosed with an STI, which can lead people to delay testing or treatment.

Stigma can also make it difficult for people to tell their sexual partners about an STI diagnosis. A recent study found only around half of people disclosed or believed they should disclose an STI to a partner before having sex.

"Stigma" used to be known as the consciences response to guilt.

Now it is deemed the real villain, not the disease or the behavior that leads to it.

They want to get laid.

They put their pleasure ahead of their "partner's" safety.

It is that simple.

They want to get some, but they don’t care about whom they hurt to get it.

Or maybe they shouldn’t have sex again until they have cured the infection or dropped the viral load to negligible (HIV).

Is “stigma” really the reason for non-disclosure? I suspect that it’s more along the lines that the infected person knowing that disclosure will stop them from getting the “action” they want.

This is the smut that is plastered on walls in public for children to view. This would have been highly criminal in a saner age.

I suggest that it is widespread amorality vs stigma. Whether it is embarrassing or not, exposing someone else to STD and the potential consequences is indefensible. Only persons without any moral compass could fail to warn or abstain.

How many contract incurable Venereal Diseases each day? I would bet people are even more unlikely to mention having these…

Negligible HIV is still HIV.

Did someone forget to take their suppression meds? Did the new sex partner get the positive person tested before sex, and get an answer back right away, before having sex that day?

This holds for herpes stuff, too.

Why don't people disclose STIs to a sexual partner?

Because they are evil.

Women are just as guilty of non-disclosure as men, if not more so. They are much better liars.

Because they are immoral and trying to get laid.

Often an overlapping issue with how they got an STD in the first place (not always).

Did someone forget to take their suppression meds?

This is the deception that is sweeping the queer world.

I'm not on board with believing that PrEP or AIDS management drugs are the silver bullet that's being touted to stop transmission. The clinical trials are one thing, the real world doesn't always match that due to the Hawthorne effect.

People are now masturbating instead of hooking up. And even having electronic sex on the internet. Sales of dildoes and pocket pussies and sex dolls have skyrocketed since Covid forced the issue, while having sex with an unprotected stranger is now seen as literally suicidal. Another good thing that has been destroyed by the left and social media and smart phones—relations between the sexes.

The left have been trying to kill stigma for sixty years now. They’ve dulled it quite a bit. Funny that they can’t finish i was off.

Here’s the only disclosure needed:

“Will you marry me?” “I will.”

“Will you promise to be faithful for as long as you both should live?” “I will.”
