I remember a geologist calling into Rush’s show one time. He explained that crude oil was the byproduct of thermonuclear activity taking place in the Earth’s (core or mantel? I forget.) and that its creation was continuous. His explanation made a heck of a lot more sense than dinosaur grease.

I read an article linked on FR about 20 years ago that reported carbon dating the oil from a well in the Gulf of Mexico. The well went “dry” and was left derelict for about 20 years. Someone retested the well, it had oil again and the date of the oil was MUCH younger than what had been there.

We were out of internet range for about 2 weeks, I looked for that article when I got back and could never find it.
