Punk is a raucous, stripped-down genre of rock music that, at its best, is made of “three chords and the truth.” Punk rock is accessible and immediate, featuring artists who may only know a handful of chords, but they’re into it for the music, not the technique. Arranging them into any kind of hierarchy is bound to get punches thrown in a punk bar. Here are the 31 best punk songs of all time.
1. Anarchy In The UK – Sex Pistols Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK
The archetypical punk song, this 1977 Cook, Matlock, Jones, and Rotten song was the proverbial foreign object in the punchbowl of the overproduced British rock scene of the late 1970s. Dripping with contempt for the British hierarchical worldview like the rest of Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols, this is one of the classic punk songs for a reason.
2. God Save The Queen – Sex Pistols Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen Revisited
Recorded almost midway through the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, this ripping indictment of English authority is a classic punk banger. Half-sung and half-shouted by Johnny Rotten, the angry lyrics and simple message of rage toward the system and its abuses, personified by the Queen, make this a song that will long outlive its target.

Offspring usurp other songs.
They do it well. They’re slick.
Obladi oblada get a job
If Crass - Banned From the Roxy isn’t on a ‘best of’ punk list
it’s shite.
Was this stuff before or after grunge?
Never heard of any of it.
Yes, that sounds like a response to the pro-abortion mantra, “It’s just a clump of cells.”
Mid-70s to early-80s. It wasn’t played on top 40 stations.
I’m not sure what song.
Iggy Pop
nothing by the Cramps? Seriously???
Devo did not make list? Lame
Dead Boys?
Voidoids and Blank Generation?
Definitely
Hey, we all had our moments..I still love you.
Blood Stains. Agent Orange from Orange County. Nice song.
It’s a rework of The Day the World Turned Dayglo by X-Ray Spex.
I don’t know if they were aware of it or did it purposely.
Yeah. That’s exactly what they say. Just a clump of cells. A bit of protein.
Dead Boys would be Sonic Reducer.
Richard Hell Blank Generation for sure. Notice it’s the same song as 16 tons essentially.
Devo would be Jocko Homo.
How about Fear?
You provided him with the Carpenters, the Association & Others I see. Good job. 🤣
“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” is NOT Punk, it is straight rock with a touch of swing thrown in.
“Radio Radio” Elvis Costello is borderline, but I would call it New Wave.
“99 Luftbalons?!” It too is borderline, but between Pop and New Wave, NOT Punk and anything. Heck, it gets played on Adult Contemporary.
I am not a punk afficionado, but I would certainly include “Beat on the Brat (with a Baseball Bat)” for the title alone.
I also have a soft spot for “Bodies” by the Sex Pistols. I have no use for the group, but a punk anti-abortion song just might have its place:
“She was a girl from Birmingham
She just had an abortion
She was a case of insanity
Her name was Pauline, she lived in a tree
She was a no-one who killed her baby”
...
[Chorus]
Body, I’m not an animal
Mummy, I’m not an abortion
