CDK Global, a company that provides auto dealerships across the U.S. with software for managing sales and other services, has been hacked, prompting the company to temporarily shut down most of its systems.
That is effectively preventing about 15,000 car dealerships from making sales.
"We are actively investigating a cyber incident," a company spokesperson told CBS News. "Out of an abundance of caution and concern for our customers, we have shut down most of our systems and are working diligently to get everything up and running as quickly as possible."
The company did not indicate when it expects to be operational again.

My former roommate just texted that the dealership he works at can’t do anything. Ransomware.
Manual processes started.
Just who is sysadmin’ing these systems anyway?
Wow. Who knew that 15,000 car dealers presumably all makes and models , use the same software.
I remember when IT people did system backups.
It’s cheaper to outsource it . . well not now.
Another question is what caliber of weapons grade fool are in charge of system administration. I had my experience with a euro pointy haired boss that I inherited. I quit a couple of Mondays ago.
He had zero concept of how anything beyond a light switch worked. Never mind anything to do with networks, phone systems, or manufacturing software. I gave up after a few weeks. Most things I can take and eventually adjust. This guy is one of the very few that had the ability to hit every nerve regularly.
Another way to think is that the world could be be blown away with just him left and he would be obsessed with finding someone to sign a form of his or typing at a dead computer expecting a response from his precious service desk careerists.
Before him and us being bought, where I worked was a decent place. It was a really good one for several years before going decent.
I’ll find something else sooner or later. After that guy I really want little to do with technology for now.
