(Vanity) Are you guys really okay with Bob Good losing? Trump endorsement related
Me

Posted on 06/19/2024 7:01:22 AM PDT by ksm1

I've been on FR since the Bush years, first as a lurker and then more active during Obama and the initial Tea Party movement. Throughout that time, there always has been active and for the most part respectful debate on FR, that sometimes got a bit heated but we all basically wanted the same thing for the country, even if it meant different ways to get there.

With the Trump years, I was skeptical of Trump at first in 2016 since he was an unknown, but then he won me over when he was actually President. You can find my posts from his years in office where I defended him. That said - there was enough left on the table, like a number of bad hires who kept undermining him, that I wanted to see a competitive primary and a candid discussion on both his record and what would be different this time around if he gets the nod.

Well that's when things got weird. We never had that discussion. It just became a yelling match, and if I wanted to do that, I'd just go join those Palestine weirdos on college campuses. No thanks.

Guys, Bob Good had an excellent 100% conservative voting record. Trump primaried him for his one and only crime which was endorsing DeSantis, even though after the primary, Bob Good came to visit Trump during his trial in NYC.

This isn't giving me any confidence that Trump has learned from his mistakes of bad hires and bad endorsements. We should have completely dominated the 2022 midterms but a number of bad endorsements sabotaged us. Dr. Oz? Seriously? Yes Arizona had some shady things with their election, but there were a bunch of other cases where Trump endorsed a weak candidate - OR, he's been backing people who DO win and then vote RINO when it counts. We can't keep saying "we want better people in Congress" and then let things like this slide.

Why I care: the grassroots activist right has always played an important role. I saw during the Bush years on FR that we'd organize campaigns to write letters to Congress to push for our values. Same during the Obama years, which is how we prevented Obama from doing a lot of gun grabbing and so forth. There was minimal of that during the Trump years. It was just "trust the plan". This isn't helpful. Politics was meant to be an active process that citizens participate in. During the Trump years, it seemed to turn into just a spectator sport. That's not how this is supposed to work.

Is this really what we want, no real political power because we actively are pushing RINOs into office to replace conservatives, but at least we "own the libs" with snarky internet remarks? Is this really the best we can do? And look, I know the left is unfairly attacking Trump, but Trump or ANY Republican needs to get pressured from the right as well, so he actually does what we want. I know the left is going to attack Trump, or anyone to the right of Rachel Maddow for that matter, but it's really getting frustrated that any pressure for accountability *from the right* is dismissed or actively trolled.

Bob Good shouldn't have even been in a competitive race. He was as solid as they get. This is getting ridiculous.

He’s a RINO. He’s always been a RINO, except for when he changed his registration.

“Republican” 3 times
Democrat twice
Independence Party once
Unaffiliated once.

After 4 years of his presidency and the constant barrage of attacks, he still got things done.

Name one.

That is a total lie. He has been pretty consistent on the issue. He is against endless war and against us funding that. He also wants Ukraine to win.

And it’s a very red district. Good got into Congress by primarying a RINO named Denver Riggleman, and the RINOS have hated him ever since.

That is a total lie.

Son, your memory is about as good as biden's. desanctomonious flipped on his support for Ukraine in less then a week after the deep state got a hold of him. That's just the fact.

Desantis is obviously more Conservative then Trump

100% true, as his record as governor shows. That's why he and his supporters have to be purged from the MAGA party. No room for real conservatives in Magadonia.

during Trump's term, from day 1 they did everything they could to hamstring Trump from passing conservative wishlist items

That's a flat out lie. They tried to push him to the right, but his Swamp advisor circle wouldn't accept that. He might have been re-elected if he had listened more to the Freedom Caucus and less to his yes men.

Check the actual record. The Freedom Caucus is made up of people genuinely fighting for conservative values, principles, and policies. Trump hates them for that.

“That is flat out a lie. desanctomonious is a deep state stooge, just like “conservative” Pence turned out to be.”

Trump said we all need to come together.

JR requested the same here.

You must be a leftist disrupter.

I see Trump as a very flawed individual. It’s the sad fact of our times that Trump is the best flawed individual available, and the only “leader” who, despite his massive ego, seems to actually want to fix our nation’s daunting problems.

After having opposed Trump by putting his own values and ideology above practicality, Good ran ads that made him look like a dour Trump mini-me. Before seeing his ads I was going to vote for him. Knowing of Good’s prior principled opposition to Trump, and that Trump had endorsed his opponent, it was extremely off-putting to see Good wrap himself in Trump (elevating the association with Trump as much more important than his own policies and values). Good might be a great guy in normal circumstances, but going for dishonesty when desperate is a bad look for a principled man.

Good accomplished little in Congress, except blowing up the Speakership and dividing the already weak Republican caucus. We went from McCarthy cooperating too much with the Dems to Mike Johnson cooperating too much with the Dems. Good’s read on politics and numbers was impractical, and just made the conservative hand weaker.

Wow! Please share cites of him showing animus toward real conservatives. The mud-slinging between him and Good was vicious. I pray that I did not vote for the wrong guy. He did hav President Trump’s endorsement.

They held up obamacare repeal

They blocked "repealk and replace," Trump's effort to replace 0bamacare with another form of government-run medicine (which Trump was always for until he started running for president.) They wanted full repeal, such as the Brooks bill. Trump opposed that. As a conservative and a constitutionalist, I'm with the Freedom Caucus on that.

they blocked Trump's infrastructure bill

Because it was a big spending bill that proposed to spend more than Pelosi's version. Spending that kind of money is how we got into the massive debt, which Trump increased bigly.

they blocked any compromises Trump sought with the dems or the rest of the gop who wanted to make a deal.

"Making a deal" that increases government spending, intrusiveness, and size is not worth it. I'd rather let it shut down than make that kind of a deal.

One of Trump's problems is that he thinks everything and anything is negotiable.

What a ridiculous response. It shows you’re not a conservative.

If you want to get things moving in the right direction and not in a more liberal, Big Government direction, then we need good conservatives like Good and DeSantis who have proven records.

Trump increased the size, scope, cost, and intrusiveness of government. DeSantis and people like Bob Good have stood for us, beaten our enemies, cut spending (check the Florida budget), and stood for (and enacted, at least in Florida) conservative policies across the range of issues that matter.

But you’re butthurt becaue they didn’t support your leader.
