(Vanity) Are you guys really okay with Bob Good losing? Trump endorsement related
Me

Posted on 06/19/2024 7:01:22 AM PDT by ksm1

I've been on FR since the Bush years, first as a lurker and then more active during Obama and the initial Tea Party movement. Throughout that time, there always has been active and for the most part respectful debate on FR, that sometimes got a bit heated but we all basically wanted the same thing for the country, even if it meant different ways to get there.

With the Trump years, I was skeptical of Trump at first in 2016 since he was an unknown, but then he won me over when he was actually President. You can find my posts from his years in office where I defended him. That said - there was enough left on the table, like a number of bad hires who kept undermining him, that I wanted to see a competitive primary and a candid discussion on both his record and what would be different this time around if he gets the nod.

Well that's when things got weird. We never had that discussion. It just became a yelling match, and if I wanted to do that, I'd just go join those Palestine weirdos on college campuses. No thanks.

Guys, Bob Good had an excellent 100% conservative voting record. Trump primaried him for his one and only crime which was endorsing DeSantis, even though after the primary, Bob Good came to visit Trump during his trial in NYC.

This isn't giving me any confidence that Trump has learned from his mistakes of bad hires and bad endorsements. We should have completely dominated the 2022 midterms but a number of bad endorsements sabotaged us. Dr. Oz? Seriously? Yes Arizona had some shady things with their election, but there were a bunch of other cases where Trump endorsed a weak candidate - OR, he's been backing people who DO win and then vote RINO when it counts. We can't keep saying "we want better people in Congress" and then let things like this slide.

Why I care: the grassroots activist right has always played an important role. I saw during the Bush years on FR that we'd organize campaigns to write letters to Congress to push for our values. Same during the Obama years, which is how we prevented Obama from doing a lot of gun grabbing and so forth. There was minimal of that during the Trump years. It was just "trust the plan". This isn't helpful. Politics was meant to be an active process that citizens participate in. During the Trump years, it seemed to turn into just a spectator sport. That's not how this is supposed to work.

Is this really what we want, no real political power because we actively are pushing RINOs into office to replace conservatives, but at least we "own the libs" with snarky internet remarks? Is this really the best we can do? And look, I know the left is unfairly attacking Trump, but Trump or ANY Republican needs to get pressured from the right as well, so he actually does what we want. I know the left is going to attack Trump, or anyone to the right of Rachel Maddow for that matter, but it's really getting frustrated that any pressure for accountability *from the right* is dismissed or actively trolled.

Bob Good shouldn't have even been in a competitive race. He was as solid as they get. This is getting ridiculous.

I was "really okay" with Good and Trump.

So you’re fine with a less conservative Congress because Trump got his feelings hurt...?

Did you read what I wrote? I said I was fine with Good and Trump.

Perhaps you should ask Bob Good if he was fine with his endorsement of a candidate who easily dismissed the stolen election in 2020 and the subsequent lawfare against a candidate who was standing up for MAGA.

So you’re fine with a less conservative Congress because Trump got his feelings hurt...?

Don't post that crap to me.

Trump is a RINO who makes Bush look conservative.

So you’re fine with a less conservative Congress because Trump got his feelings hurt...? At what point is this still America First or is it just Trump First?

You butt hurt never Trumpers never give up. Trump created/defined/is America First. Now you never Trumpers, who are too pure for Trump, think you can take credit for it. LOL!

DeSantis did no such thing. He did not “cave.” That is a cultist lie.

I completely concur with your assessment.

I've been in Virginia politics for a while and have known and worked with Bob and John for a long time. Bob has done an outstanding job in the House and is one of us. John keeps running for the next thing and is not an effective legislator.

I also blame Chris LaCivita.

With $36T in debt, all issues of tax and spend no longer mean anything. That debt level has no solution. There is nothing that can be done.

There are only two issues. The Border and the Swamp

With respect I believe you have the priorities inverted. If the debt crisis is not resolved there will be no control over the border and no cleaning out of the swamp because there will be no constitutional republic as we now know it.

History tells us that in the wake of every catastrophic financial crisis the result is not better more prudent government but tyranny as the people turn in their desperation to a Savior, a man on horseback, who promises to end the misery if only we surrender a small portion of liberty.

A budget out of control means no economy no economy means no Republican democracy and no constitutional government as we know it means no border and no accountable administrative government. If the government cannot control its budget history tells us it cannot control the streets, it cannot control the mob, and, ultimately, it cannot control itself.

The voters chose. Deal with them.

Do you even live in Virginia?

Trump is neither conservative or RINO, he’s a populist. He’s a flawed vessel, but he’s all we’ve got.

The problem here is that our side doesn’t know how to rally together. Trump was the obvious winner from the beginning. Tough pill to swallow for some, but it is fact which is proving true now. Why endorse someone who clearly had no chance? To create in-fighting amongst Republicans, which to me, smells of deep state bigly.
After 4 years of his presidency and the constant barrage of attacks, he still got things done. There is not one reason Good should not have endorsed him, deep state.

McGuire is not “a good guy.” He’s a RINO McCarthyite who has an animus against real conservatives.

What is this total loyalty crap. Your loyalty is to your country not to a political figure. I voted for Trump in 16, 20 and will vote for him this year, but the idea that someone has to be totally loyal to him is as scary as it is wrong. The only person I’m totally loyal to is my wife and she pushes the envelope sometimes.

The hell he didn't, he flipped 180 degrees in less then a week after the deep state gave him his marching orders.

Good received a 100% rating from the American Conservative Union and a 98% rating from the John Birch Society. We cannot afford to lose good people particularly in Virginia. Flipping Virginia in a Presidential election is difficult but not impossible. You need to overcome the fraud in Northern Virginia and Richmond by encouraging mass voter turnout in western and southern Virginia.

We need massive spending cuts, cancellation of all debt to hostile regimes like China, and to begin to pay down the debt.

But Trump’s administration added to the debt bigly. Meanwhile, the Free State of Florida just enacted a budget that actually spends LESS.

Trump has an animus against the Freedom Caucus because they opposed his Big Government replacement for 0bamacare, wanting instead to just repeal it outright, not repeal and replace. It’s about his ego, as always.

Good didn’t “backstab” anyone; your leader did. He has backstabbed conservatives at every turn.

He didn’t fight the Swamp; he empowered it.

Glad to see you posting, Nathan! The silence towards controlling spending in DC is maddening. Now we’re adding a trillion in debt every 100 days, and no one inside the Beltway gives a damn.

I haven’t returned to Germany in 40+ years, life keeps getting in the way. However, I continue to buy from my favorite winery, Weingut Eduard Kroth. I’ve been a customer since 1978.
