The high price is a reflection of quality in materials and workmanship, but, as in everything from a Michelin star restaurant to Costco membership, the idea is to make it inaccessible to the riff raff.

Hermes makes it impossible to purchase one unless you are a regular Hermes shopper, it’s a bag that will never seer lose its value and only appreciate since most people that want one have to buy it on the secondary market. People actually paid more on the secondary market than the price of a new one Sotheby’s holds auctions just for these bags.
Same way a baseball card can cost a million dollars. Obsessed fans and scarce items.
But the bags are pretty expensive to begin with, and some of them come with diamonds or gold hardware which are going to be even pricier.
The trick is getting the specific bag you want at the insider price, apparently.
