You are probably right. The earth has finite fossil fuels and they should be conserved for higher-value uses. The ultimate solution will be to build nuclear power plants to charge batteries.

Unfortunately, to do that, you have to get those who block nuclear plant construction to endorse it as the way forward. That might be a tougher row to hoe than creating better batteries.

But \abiotic\ hydrocarbon fuels (petroleum) are being constantly refrshed under feet in real time.

Not disagreeing with you but don’t forget there was a civil
war back in 1860 or so. We may have to find some type meds
to keep us going this time. Heck we may be living in outer
space in the not to distant future.
