Why is new mexico so liberal. Doesn’t make sense to me.
Large minority population and people living below the poverty line. A lot of people living there that work for the government. Poor education. Nothing ever seems to get better, but they keep voting for the same thing, just like a lot of other places. It almost makes you want to believe that the system is rigged.
Central and northern New Mexico (ABQ/Santa Fe) is full of liberal-to- radical so-called "progressives," lots of native-Americans (pueblos, Navajo, Apache reservations) and poor Hispanics. Anglo's are a minority in the state. NM is #50 in all the national ratings (education, welfare, health, etc.
The industry they love to hate is oil and natural gas; revenues make up about 50% of state income (NM is #2 behind Texas for production), but they keep trying to regulate it out of existence for "climate change" reasons. The SE NM economy is booming, drilling, production together with associated service company jobs, many occupied by Hispanics (some no doubt illegal). Without O&G all NM has for income are the national labs, marijuana and tourism.
