“An EV can cost $20,000 to $40,000 more because of the battery,”
Tesla Model 3 is $40k!
Try again.

Yeah, that's the same kind of price quote that people get when they investigate the price of any vehicle: the base price. When going for the other features/options, the price goes way up. Lexus offers a base price, which hardly anybody buys, and when the options come into play, you end up paying some $15,000-#20,000 more.
The used price for a Model 3 is between $21,000 and $23,000, and that's for a one-year old car. Not good at all for a 'premium' car. People don't want used EVs, no matter how elegant they were originally.
My granddaughters' friend's mom owns a Tesla Y, and she says she's going to trade it in for an ICE car, and she's owned the vehicle for just 1.5 years. My daughter ordered the same Tesla model about 2 years ago, and she asked for her money back after reading all about that Tesla model.
Tesla is the leader when it comes to EV sales, but, in the last 2 or so years, they've been suffering from a decline in sales. People are getting smart and staying away from ALL EV vehicles. Musk has taken a big hit on his net worth with Teslas, and they're even rethinking the construction of the Tesla battery manufacturing facilities.
Tesla will remain a business, even with the lower sales, and they need people like YOU to keep them operating.
