I once thought about designing a washing machine that just had two controls: Agitate and spin-dry.

No timers, no microprocessors, no circuit boards, no digital displays.

Just wash until you flip the switch to drain then spin for as long as you want.......................

The other advice I would give is to buy your appliances from an actual appliance dealer who services the machines they sell. DO NOT BUY from Lowes & Home Depot or other big box retailers.

Here in southern NH most of the local dealers will ONLY service a machine IF you bought it from them. They are so busy with their own customers they do not have any time for the people who bought from the big box stores.
