It wouldn’t be so bad if we didn’t lose hundreds of dollars worth of frozen food every time one craps out.
We now have a small freezer as an emergency back-up..........
We have a backup battery that will run a refrigerator for several hours. We also have a deisel backup generator for longer blackouts.
We lost pretty much everything in a flood in October 2018. When we rebuilt, we tried to cover most contingencies. We looked into a whole house solar system with back up batteries, but the break even point on upfront costs exceeded our life expectancy.
