I’ve been to 3 different 5 guys burger places and all 3 the burgers were ok but nothing special IMO. WHATABURGER (Texas type) is a massively better burger. The fries at all 3 of the 5 guys were horrible !!! Soggy, dripping grease and just downright disgusting IMO. I could have squeezed the grease out of them.
I’ve gotten to where I prefer the DQ HungrBuster over the Whataburger. Especially the Jalitos Ranch. Fried jalapeños, mmm.
5 Guys is more about fries I think. Whataburger makes the coldest burger of anybody though. It’s as if they pull them out of the fridge.

For the past five years, I do not seek out Whataburger unless last resort for a quick lunch.
Whataburger stores refuse to cook a fresh burger and instead serve those cooked at 10 am and put in a warmer drawer.
I have asked many times for them to cook me one like in their commercials…“Sir, we do not do that”.
Ive had good experiences with all of the 5 guys diners that Ive been too. good fresh fries- no grease, and tasty burgers.
Same experience with Whataburger.
You must have eaten at a counterfeit 5 guys location.
Now theres a local place called hometown hamburgers. Very greasy burgers and so-so fries just like you describe.
