Florida authorities on high alert after 3 shark attacks in a single day — including woman who lost her arm

Cops in Florida’s panhandle are on high alert after three shark attacks in a single day left one woman badly maimed and two teen girls injured on the same stretch of coastline.

Authorities temporarily closed the beaches and are patrolling the waters after the encounters, which left a 45-year-old woman with severe injuries that led doctors to amputate part of her left arm.

They have since reopened — but cops say swimmers need to stay vigilant.

“Deputies spotted a 14-foot hammerhead east of South County Highway 395 in Santa Rosa Beach this morning from the boat — which is NOT uncommon,” the post continued. “We want to reiterate that sharks are always present in the Gulf. Swimmers and beachgoers should be cautious when swimming and be aware of their surroundings at all times.”

Why mention spotting a Hammerhead? I'm not a shark expert but they
are known for being shy, not aggressive.

My guess it was a Bull Shark. Their habitat is around coastal
waters, they are very aggressive, and swim in shallow water.

They will attack your ass.

As surfer I’ve mostly seen blacktips in the lineup

“Why mention spotting a Hammerhead?”

Because just like Bull sharks, Hammerheads are man eaters.

Yes, Bullard sharks can be aggressive....usually because they come into shallow brackish water to spawn.

I grew up in Lauderdale and did a lot of scuba diving by the pier.
(Anglins)

Lots of sharks.
Sand, tiger, lemon, nurse ..
Never a problem unless you were thrashing around like a wounded fish.
(Sharks have bad eyesight)

Only problem I ever had was using a speargun to shoot into a school of barracuda.
(I was a new diver and had no idea what a cuda was😁)

Had the entire school rush me.

Mad as hell swarm.

Got a couple of stinging bites before getting away!
(Lucky it wasn’t chunks of flesh🥴)

They should bring in Matt Hooper to analyze the bite radius.

If you check the article there is a pic of Sheriff’s Office boat patrolling.

Most coastal Florida counties patrol thexwaterways....I know mine does.

Thanks. I sometimes forget about the different divisions in the local sheriff’s department.
