Lots of us are enchanted by the pint-sized charm of small dogs, but have you ever been caught off guard by their unexpected nibbles?
As a former vet tech, I’ve totally had my fair share of interactions with these pocket rockets of personality.
So, if you’ve ever felt like you need a secret decoder ring to understand why your mini-mutt occasionally thinks fingers are gourmet treats, stay tuned as I round up a list of small dogs that bite, together with a bunch of useful information on how you can handle it.

Me too, 23lbs, and I had no chance at 200lbs, although he always had an advantage, I always sleep on my side, so he just had to get close, and keep pushing through the night, by morning I was hanging 😳
Well, I checked ... Gary Patterson didn’t make a plate/print with our breed.
But, I did find another plate (with our breed), so thank you for planting the idea :-)
Hopefully it wasn’t a claw in the butt😳, that would really wake you up and get ya moving.

Here in S.E.Michigan, we use them as bait when trolling for muskies in Lake St. Clair.
If the dog can’t rip the throat out of a home intruder, it ain’t worth owning......
Nope, this cat would just get behind her and push with all four feet, and whenever she’d give the cat a little room, the cat would reposition and push some more, and pretty soon she’d be on the floor. Happened more than once. I don’t know if the cat ever tried it on me. If so, it didn’t work.
I was barked at very seriously by a chihuahua and a pit bull the other day. The pit was even strong enough to pull his chain loose and come right up to me and bark. The chihuahua wasn’t quite that strong, but I’m sure he would have done the same if he was able.
After this experience, I wonder if it would be okay to let my dog just bark at visitors. I always put her away when we have visitors because she barks a lot and I’m afraid she’ll bite. I’m not worried about her behavior outside the house, just inside. Outside, kids ask if they can pet her and I always allow them to.
I need a zimmer.
On average, little dogs don’t get disciplined as puppies to the extent so tend to have more behavior problems.
Some breeds are prone to nerotic tenancies, too, like Chihuahuas. I swear when I was a kid our neighbor’s Chihuahua had multiple personality disorder or schizophrenia or maybe demon possession, lol. It would go from sweet and loving, to terrified, to raging anger monster seemingly at random.
I recall a stat that said supposedly only 5% of dog owners bother to train their animals. I’ve never been around what I would consider a well-trained small breed. I’ve seen animal acts and obviously dogs trained for performance, but never someone’s regular pet.

My parents have a small dog and he is a polite gentleman who's only bad habit is a tendency to try to lick your face when you have him on your lap.
Dog next door is the same breed and will snap at you in a heartbeat.
Our 18 YO daughter is also the supposed owner of a chihuahua as well. She did pay for it 4 years ago. It’s 100% my dog now though. It is quite stubborn as well, but I found that beating her a little bit helps a ton. Nothing cruel, but make pain for that little thing, and the dog understands who is the boss. I am the only one that dog listens to all the time. Cute little booger!
We recently went through a dog training program, and the woman running it referred to Dachshunds as killing machines. They are bred to hunt badgers, after all.
Both our dog and my parent's dog are well trained.
They both bark when they need to alert the people to something and neither one has bitten a human.

Just the bare minimum of obeying commands like sit, stay, come, no and so on combined with a general demeanor conducive to humans enjoying having the dog around. I have been around very pleasant small breeds, but they wouldn’t take commands. Granted, this is less important for purpose bred rodent destroyers used for that purpose, but the vast majority are no longer used specifically for that reason.
