We have arrived at this point: "Everyone is greedy for gain." Jeremiah 6:13-14
Jeremiah Chapter 6, verses 13, 14 | 5 June 2024 | God

Every truth is in the Bible, but people have strayed far away from it. Something evil this way comes if this nation refuses to repent and turn back to God. The passage says "everyone"...including the religious leaders. Same in this country.

Jeremiah 6:13-14 ‬

[13] “For from the least of them even to the greatest of them, everyone is greedy for gain, And from the prophet even to the priest everyone deals falsely.
[14] They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying, ‘Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.

NASB1995

San Dimas was the repentant thief, so no one should forget his history report.

Also a New Testament account.

Acts chapter 4:32 closes by stating that the first followers of Jesus did not consider their possessions to be their own but rather held in common, in order to use what they had on behalf of those in want. For example, Barnabas, a Levite from Cyprus, sold a plot of land and donated the proceeds to the apostles.[2] As told at the beginning of Acts chapter 5, Ananias and Sapphira, following Barnabas' example, also sold their land but secretly withheld a portion of the proceeds. Ananias presented his donation to Peter. Peter replied, "Why is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit?" Peter pointed out that Ananias was in control of the money and could give or keep it as he saw fit, but had withheld a portion of it. Peter stated that Ananias had lied not to men, but to God. Because of his actions Ananias died on the spot and was carried out. Everyone who heard about the incident feared the Lord. Three hours after Ananias' death his wife arrived, unaware of what had happened. Peter asked her the price of the land that she and Ananias had sold, and she stated the same untruthful price that Ananias had given. She too fell dead.[3]

Is definitely was not about greed.
It was about lying to the Holy Spirit.
They wanted to make people think they were special and had done something like Barnabas when in fact they had not. They lied about the amount of sales money they collected and they didn’t tell the truth.

They lied to withhold the money collected. They promised God a certain amount expecting the blessings.

That is most certainly greed.

Given a more conscious thought, lying to GOD was their penalty for immediate death.

Why they lied was GREED.

They should have just kept the price out of it.

They were seeking favor born of a lie.

I’ve never heard the name of the thief before your post mentioned it. What is the source for this information please?

Psalm 9:17

“The wicked shall be turned into hell, And all the nations that forget God. “

” The wicked shall be turned back unto Sheol, Even all the nations that forget God. “

I just finished Isaiah, and I had a very tough time with it. Couldn’t really absorb it, at least not in the way I suspect I should have.

I am hoping Jeremiah is different. I have been trying to read the bible front to back, and then I will go back and start learning about it with perspectives I probably didn’t pick up.

I’ll need the help of others for some of that, for sure.

Isaiah is a trough read but well worth it if you study it with a strong guide…it paints the finest picture of the Messiah found in ancient scripture. If you think Isaiah was tough, however, you are really in for it when you get to Ezekiel.

I think the point is not to have your life ruled by gain.
We have plenty of poor Christians. We don’t need anymore.

Thanks to both of you-I have found most Christians on FR are very helpful, not preachy or condescending, and I like the community!
