Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame offensive lineman Larry Allen died suddenly Sunday while on vacation with his family in Mexico, the team announced Monday.

He was 52.

"Larry, known for his great athleticism and incredible strength, was one of the most respected, accomplished offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His versatility and dependability were also signature parts of his career. Through that, he continued to serve as inspiration for many other players, defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor and winner," the team said in a statement.

"He was deeply loved and cared for by his wife, Janelle -- whom he referred to as his heart and soul -- his daughters Jayla and Loriana and son, Larry III. The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry."

Sometimes it was a tourist area, other times not.

Think a retired professional athlete was vacationing in Juarez?

I’ve had many a good time in Mexico.

Only an American tourist with money would say that.

Remember he was young and his heart and muscles could handle his load. If he was anywhere that weight at 52....it is no surprise he died suddenly.

Finally, a board certified cardiologist available for consultation right here on Freerepublic........

Do you take appointments in your office or offer free advice on this forum?

“Suddenly” is now a medical term for cause of death.

I thought there should have been a weight limit for football players, and that was one of the reasons.

Each team should be permitted to have one left tackle with no weight limit to protect the QB's blind side.

LOL with Barry Switzer as head coach. Granted they were better with the Jimmy Johnson teams.

The Switzer Super Bowl team was still a Jimmy Johnson team. My grandmother could have "coached" them to the Super Bowl that season.

You’re right. Mexico is like the U.S., a wealthy country where all the people are content to stay there. You bet.

I remember that play well. Larry Allen did not give up on the play, that’s for sure.

Someone should ask Fauci about the 'young men of military build' dying at young ages... Wouldn't that be fun to watch him give the finger to Congress over the nerve of them daring to ask that question.

Maybe Fauci's butt boys in the press can accuse our side of being some kind of 'phobes'... for asking.

I saw Allen do some incredible things, literally pancake a Steelers all-pro in the Super Bowl, run down a Saints DB from behind. I do think that Dallas would have beaten the 48ers in the Championship they lost in SF if he had been healthy.

But play in and play out, I was never that impressed with him. Just one little for instance-—and I know the LINE is the LINE. But you recall the idiocy in Philly where Dallas went for it on 3rd, 4th, and a penalty 5th down with 1 yard to go on his side . . . and were stopped all three times? No. That wouldn’t happen with Nate Newton or with Zach Martin. If I had to choose, I’d take Martin over Allen. I know this is Cowboy heresy.
