Wild moment screaming woman chases a BEAR down her driveway when it ran after her pet dog Zeus

A Minnesota woman leapt into action when a black bear began to chase her dog, and fearing for his life, ran after them.

Bailey Jacobson was leaving her Maple Grove house with the family dog, Zeus, on Tuesday night, when they came face-to-face with a group of unexpected visitors.

A home security camera captured the hair-raising moment Zeus began trotting in the direction of a mama bear, who was digging through a garbage can with three cubs at her side.

The cubs fled as the German shepherd drew near, with Jacobson trailing behind obliviously. Once she saw the mama bear, however, she let out a blood-curdling scream.

The bear followed Zeus as he bounded down the driveway. After a momentary pause, Jacobson hurried after them and the trio disappeared from sight.

'For me, it was just that natural instinct of thinking I couldn't live with myself if something happened,' Jacobson told KARE 11.

'As a worried pet owner, you think, okay, what do you do? Do you have a fight-or-flight instinct?'

She said her knee-jerk reaction was to try to protect Zeus 'as much as possible.'

Jacobson came around 50 feet away from the bear when reality hit. She abruptly turned and high-tailed it home without her dog.

The Minnesota woman waited from her screened-in porch as minutes ticked by. However, she was able to breathe a sigh of relief when Zeus appeared from the woods, apparently unharmed.

It is not uncommon for Maple Grove's some 70,000 residents to brush shoulders with wildlife.

My 2nd dog story in 24 hours.

Now see this woman is a FReeper. How do I know? Only a FReeper would chase a Mama bear who was chasing her dog.

I would have done the same thing. That dog can out run the bear, thing is can the bear out run the dog's mom?

Some FReepers might be disappointed that the dog lived.

Easily. I have encountered 2 black bears running through the woods, they are fast.

But how I really know, I clocked one at a little over 40 MPH that was running beside my car.

I would have chased the bear too. The difference is, I’m always armed. Had it come down to it, it would have been a very bad day for the bear.

Dog should have been on a leash, for its own protection, but I guess we don’t use those so much anymore.

In areas where bears are hunted with hounds they normally run away from dogs.

I live in the country in a state that allow bear hunting with dogs. My dogs have chased many a bear away.

Bears should run away from humans and dogs.

Both the dog and that lady are stupid: a mother bear with cubs? Last thing on Earth anyone should mess with.

"Jacobson came around 50 feet away from the bear when reality hit. She abruptly turned and high-tailed it home without her dog."

When danger reared it's ugly head,
She bravely turned her tail and fled.

I joke. I kid. In a similar situation, I would've said, "Damn. I'm gonna miss Zeus. He was a good dog."

I'd say she loved her dog enough to forget she's dealing with an apex predator until reality kicked in. There is a bear saying " if its black you must attack, if its brown lay on the ground, and if its white kiss your a$$ good night.

iow, black bears arent normally aggressive, ( Mama bears excluded) brown bears will hopefully just sniff you before they eat you, and polar bears, well, You are 99% on the menu.
