While there are a lot of choices, the early betting is on a Capitol Hill firebrand uniquely poised to bring in the libertarian wing of the GOP, which could provide a bump of 3% to 4% of the vote.
“There are only two realistic GOP nominees: Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis,” Since neither is likely to pick the other as a running mate, the adviser offered libertarian Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) as a good fit.

Setting the table. Trump wouldn’t have to endorse Paul as DeSantis will be out there in 4 years. Trump could encourage Vivek to get in the Governor game(Ohio). Paul will have the advantage of 4 years OJT. DeSantis as VP just might get tiresome as the pendulum inevitably swings. In Paul being upbeat voters can think of the possibilities-all positive.
He might be an interesting choice but I’d rather see Rand Paul replace McConnell.
He’s proven himself to be fully compromised, but still Rand would never get the McConnell seat.
This is the era of identity politics.
What Trump really needs is a good woman or a good black/Hispanic man.
Trump’s running mate should be a well-known person.
This person should preferably be from a Midwest or Western state.
Given Trump’s experience with bad hires there’s no guarantee picking Paul would be the right one. Pence was the right pick like Bush ‘41 until reelection time. By holding his cards close to the vest in ‘28 Trump can scan the landscape for others. It will be his party and he owes nobody.
Majority leader-we’re not in that club-no say in it. Go with Cruz. It’s the hispanic thing.
He’s a Senator. We have a lead of one in the Senate. So if he is the VP we have no lead.
Stop suggesting Senators and Congressmen to be VP.
Not only yes, but h3ll yes!
No way: KY has a Rat governor, so Rand’s replacement would be a Rat.
Either you were unaware of when it was posted, or you are being purposely deceitful. Only you know the truth.
But there were facts mentioned in the article that didn't match with the reality that exist right now, such as the very opening statement:
With two Republicans already in the 2024 presidential race and possibly a half-dozen more in spring, some forward-thinking strategists are already looking to next year, when the eventual nominee will pick a running mate.
Trump stands alone as the unquestioned presumptive Republican candidate.
No. Just no. Cynical abandonment of principles is not a good look.
+1. What he said.
Besides this we need Paul to be promoted in government.
Who else is raising the alarm on things like the budget, COVID coverup to the degree he is?
Yes he is weak on immigration but right now we have many RINOs weak on everything..Dems of course go without saying.
As long as they're from a safe district, it shouldn't matter.
If he wants a female, make it Hageman (WY); she's poised, fluent in the issues, and it kicks the Cheney wing in the teeth again. If he doesn't care about the sex of the VP, Paul could leave KY open for a Dem gain in the Senate, but Chip Roy's seat is safe and he's the kind of firebrand that could let Trump look more Presidential while attacking the Dems on the issues they are vulnerable, which is all the issues.
I’d prefer Rand take over for Mitch as majority leader.
I've always though that group was nuttier that squirrel poop, and the last convention showed that to the world. Those in that group that will support Trump will, and those that won't, won't.
I love Rand Paul, but he is not going to move the needle.
Nahhhh... I like Donalds

I am totally aware. There are just no other articles on the subject. Deceitful? Me? I’m just bringing up the subject which will come up soon enough.
The truth-Rand is my choice. I hate to disappoint you.
It is my understanding that “Cruz” is not a natural-born citizen.
