There Is No ‘International Law’

One of the great qualities of the West is its belief in the directionality of history. Many ancient cultures believed that history was circular: Native American cultures often believed that reality itself was circular; Hinduism thinks similarly. The Judeo-Christian West thought differently: that God exists outside of time, but that He guides mankind forward, step by stumbling step, toward an eschatological culmination.

This means that the West has thought, more than any other culture, about progress. It also means that the West tends to mistake movement in time for progress, and waystations in history as endpoints. Thus, World War I was labeled “the war to end all wars” … until World War II. In the aftermath of the Cold War, Francis Fukuyama suggested the possibility of an “end of history” … until history reasserted itself along the lines of Samuel Huntington’s clash of civilizations.

The West also tends to mistake institutional forms for underlying realities. Because the West, particularly in the aftermath of the Enlightenment, has thought so much about the varieties of human institutions and their purposes, we tend to believe too much in the power of human action. This means that we often reverse cause and effect: We tend to believe, for example, that democracy precedes rights, as opposed to rights preceding democracy. We also tend to believe that we are the creators of our own rights and responsibilities; we are, in essence, legal positivists who believe that law is created by us rather than preexisting us. For example, Woodrow Wilson posited after World War I that we ought to create a League of Nations, since “There is only one power to put behind the liberation of mankind, and that is the power of mankind.” As it turns out, that was a lot of rot.

Shocked I was after reading his profile at Wikipedia to learn he was a Democrat.

I thought KC Burke was drawing me into an ambush ;^)

I mis-remembered Helms as Bird; so much thanks to KC Burke for reminding me there was once some good democrats.

Maybe everyone should reacquaint themselves with Helms, that might break the Obama deception and bring some sanity back to this Nation.

Even when there is no formal law making body, custom may be treated as binding law. That was so in unsettled territories as Americans settled the continent.

Likewise, when companies or countries make agreements, they look to the text of those agreements to govern their conduct and to resolve disputes without the involvement of legislatures or courts.

Diplomatic recognition similarly involves mutual promises between countries to abide by formal international conventions and diplomatic custom as to how diplomats and countries act. Other treaties also add to international law, as do various international organizations.

Like it or not, that is the nature of international law.

Fortunately, too many citizens and too many countries reject your loose definition of "law."

The United States is not a member of the International Criminal Court (ICC). The Act authorizes the president of the United States to use “all means necessary and appropriate to bring about the release of any U.S. or allied personnel being detained or imprisoned by, on behalf of, or at the request of the International Criminal Court”. This authorization led to the act being colloquially nicknamed “The Hague Invasion Act”, as the act allows the president to order U.S. military action, such as an invasion of the Netherlands, where The Hague is located, to protect American officials and military personnel from prosecution or rescue them from custody.

The ancient law of the high seas, still applies against pirates and terrorists (a sub-classification of piracy).

Both the UN and NATO are a disaster. Both have been taken over by the deep state and then weaponized.

The UN is responsible for much of the border invaders. They use nonprofits and other subsidiaries to do the dirty work and fund them with our money. The UN also creates havoc on a world wide basis especially in Africa. Remember the Davos types don't want any African nation to escape poverty. They will do whatever necessary to make sure they stay in chaos.

Meanwhile NATO is busy starting WWIII.

When Trump returns he will get rid of both of them and start one good institution for the world. He will invite only those with values similar to those of the US in the 50's.

Trumps presidency is not just for us but for the entire world.

There’s no international law YET. Soon, though, sadly.

Your sentiments are appreciated; however, when the UN is singled out without mentioning the active role of the family that created it and uses it as the vehicle for the means (migration, medicine and mayhem) to further their ends (global control through networked oligarchs) a gross misunderstanding regarding the source of havoc is perpetuated.

...At a time when people around the world have lost faith in their political leaders and institutions to solve our greatest challenges, we have to demonstrate what’s possible when we work together to achieve common goals for the good of all people. This is precisely the moment in time when we need a new kind of leadership – not just from political leaders and governments – but also from civil society institutions and community leaders, scientists and investors, and corporate executives and young activists alike. This is a moment when the world needs everyone to step up collectively.

Mention of the law of the seas reminded me of the congressional representative I once had.

He was also a member of GlobeUSA. The announcement of his appointment can be read at https://web.archive.org/web/20010706190013if_/http://globeusa.org:80/globeusa/images/Octobernewsletter.pdf

On page three of that newsletter you can read:

GLOBE USA Receives Grant from Rockefeller Foundation

In August, GLOBE USA gained another prominent supporter by receiving a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. A longtime a supporter of making policymakers aware of global trends and issues, Rockefeller approved a grant for GLOBE USA to highlight the changing role of national legislators as globalization and international institutions take traditionally national policy issues into the international arena. The grant will be used to improve GLOBE USA’s website and produce a publication and a briefing for members to be held at the beginning of the 107th Congress.

I hope that will help explain away any puzzlement concerned Americans might experience past or future when UNamerican, UNconstitutional action was taken or is to be taken by Congress or approved by the Senate or the Executive branch.

At least it should provide a better idea of who was and is the major buyer of our Constitutional based freedoms and reshapers of our lives.
