You are right. LibreOffice crashes on my larger spreadsheets. There is Excel for MacOS. I am dual boot, using the Windows boot for FileMaker Pro, WordPerfect and Excel. Linux for everything else.
There had been WordPerfect for Linux, but Corel fell on hard times and Microsoft paid them off to keep them off Linux, and be vey controllable opposition in the Windows market.

But not as good as Lotus was. Like Word is far inferior to WordPerfect for DOS. (When WP transitioned to Windows format it lost a lot of functionality.)
