"It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world; so far, I mean, as we are now at liberty to do it; for let me not be understood as capable of patronizing infidelity to existing engagements. I hold the maxim no less applicable to public than to private affairs, that honesty is always the best policy. I repeat it, therefore, let those engagements be observed in their genuine sense. But, in my opinion, it is unnecessary and would be unwise to extend them."
And who said this:
"Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations—entangling alliances with none."
Reagan was in about much control of the military as Dubya
” The neocon position re: Europe is that of Reagan, not of Washington 200 years earlier. “
One of them finally admits it.
That isn’t what I saw, he had a huge impact on us.
Your posts states everything I need to know about your views.
Umm, you did, in post 27.
We would be acting in our best interests, like protecting Taiwan, and the world would be a better place.
Its not being the world's policeman or nation building.
The reason we could not be isolationist in 1941, is because of our expansion in The Pacific, that came with the end of the Spanish-American War (Hawaii and The Philippines), and the rising rivalry with Japan, we had to greatly expand the Navy presence in the Pacific. We relied heavily on The Royal Navy to protect the Atlantic, and if that fell into German hands, we would have been in big trouble.
It could not. Russians have never had any experience of popular sovereignty. They expect to be dictated to, as they have always been. The only glimmer of democracy that ever happened in Russia was the Decemberists of 1825, and we know what happened to them.
No, Reagan was NOT a neo- con. He was facing a 3rd World War, with an advancing, aggressive Soviet Union on the march.
Yes, but that train sailed in 1898.
Let me guess, you got caught up in Iraq war fever and supported it for many years.
Can’t you see how they duped conservatives? You need to talk to hardspunned
In retrospect, it sure did. It started us on the collision course with Japan.
Only difference being that Reagan was once a Democrat, which was necessary to qualify as a Neocon back then. Maybe you need to read the link I posted at #51.
No you're wrong. US has no long term determination required to nation build or even fight wars. Vietnam proved that.
"Finally"? That's always been our position. Where have you been?
ok so you’re aware of the neocons hoodwinking many good folks/conservatives with their arguments
I’m happy because the same cast of characters WILL Pop up again telling you to go to war in some place else sooner or later...
Thankfully now many of them have been driven from the GOP like Kristol, et al due to Donald Trump’s foreign policy.
I wonder why Chad is even here?
We are helping the enemy of our enemy in Ukraine without loss or injury of one US soldier, while sending a warning to China on Taiwan.
The last Democrat President Reagan voted for was Truman in 1948, having voted for FDR, a time when Texans were Democrats.
Don’t confuse the 1930/40s with the Hollywood communists fighting, Eisenhower campaigning, Nixon campaigning, JFK despising as a Marxist, speech giver at the Goldwater convention, 2 time California Governor, almost nominee in 1976, and 2 time right wing president that brought down the Russian empire with being a democrat.
Don’t work so hard against a conservative President.
As a counterbalance to the insanity. My mission in life.
