It's always the Captain's fault when a ship runs aground. I would bet he is already or soon will be relieved. It's historically been a career killer.

In contrast, I was told once by a Captain in the Norwegian Navy that if a captain didn't run aground at least once in the fjords that it was assumed he lacked aggression and that was bad. If he did it twice it showed that he didn't learn. Of course, you will learn that Norwegians are a jokey lot and you can never be entirely sure if their stories are true or not but still...

/and, in doing so put the ship into shallow water. He should have called downstairs as he was doing that. Not to wait, can’t hit a fishing vessel, just to give the Cpt a heads-up so he can sprint for the bridge if he suspects something.

He ran aground on sand. Geesh. Chill out.
