Las Vegas girl, 12, kills herself after being tormented by bullies at school for months
Daily Mail UK ^ | May 17, 2024 | Ruth Bashinsky

A 12-year-old Las Vegas girl took her own life after being tormented by bullies at her middle school for months.

Flora Martinez, a sixth grader at Keller Middle School, killed herself on May 7 - eight months and one day after her transfer out of Duane D. Keller middle school was denied. Her funeral was on Thursday.

Her distraught parents are now blaming the Clark County School District for not doing enough to protect their daughter.

Grieving mother, Alice Martinez told News8: 'I feel like the school had a duty to keep her safe, while she was in their care and they just failed miserably.'

The young girl's parents said their daughter's peers started bullying her early into the school year. Flora's mother claimed both she and her child approached the assistant principal for help.

The mom then submitted paperwork for her daughter's transfer out of the middle school, but her request was denied in October.

Flora's mother said she had taken her daughter out of school for two weeks early in the school year when the bullying began, but when she returned to school it intensified.

'Everybody that had a hand in that request to transfer her failed her. If you’re a parent and you’re not outraged by this, you’re part of the problem too,' Martinez said.

Flora's dad Joshua Parker said: 'This wasn’t just one incident that happened, and you know, she decided to take her life.

'This was months and months and months of bullying that built up, and finally, she just couldn’t take it no more.'

The heartbroken father added: 'Look how hard it was on my daughter. My daughter was literally bullied to death.'

My thinking may be a little different because I home-schooled. I just can’t imagine sending my child into such a torture chamber every day. To me it would be no different than sending your child out in the night to walk through the streets, with all of the danger. Why would anyone send a child into such pain and abuse, knowingly, every day? I would rather the child received a couple of hours of teaching at home in the evenings. The school systems are so poor at educating that you don’t have to do much to surpass their lessons. I would do without a job, or find a job on an opposite shift to protect my child. I just don’t get it.

"The girl is white. The school is mostly minorities . . . The school’s minority student enrollment is 93%.”

This may explain the reason why the article didn't mention the reason for the bullying.

Take your kid to work, if you can. They can spend 8 hours a day doing school work and all the extra-curricular stuff after work.

That kid would never be found if she did that to my kid.

Another possible option.

I had a friend whose daughter had issues at school. I was home-schooling my own kids, so I took in her daughter to school as well. That was over 30 years ago, when home-schooling wasn’t near as popular as it is now.

I would do anything before I sent my child into such torment. Their education would actually be a secondary factor.

“Take your kid to work, if you can. They can spend 8 hours a day doing school work and all the extra-curricular stuff after work.”

I’ve seen the homeschool curriculum that comes from our county. Honestly? If a kid sat down at 8 am and did it all he/she would be done by noon and could go out and play for the rest of the day.

What takes up most of the day is teachers taking roll, nonsense in the classroom, kids having to run the halls to get to the next classroom.

I’m shocked more kids don’t want to homeschool other than the fact their parents want rid of them.

Homeschooling really is an option.

Homeschooling is the only option.

I didn’t see any explanation as to why she was being bullied.

Oh, you think there is a good reason for a young girl to be bullied?

Please tell us what you think a good reason is for them to do this.

Under my suggestion, they’d be done grade 12 by the time they were 14. I’m ok with that.

Kids are not aware of homeschooling, plus they are propagandized that having friends is an utmost priority during the school years.

The girl’s parents let her down by keeping her in that school. Church school, home school, no school, move, beat several bullies half to death — there were things they could have done.

The school/school district let her down by forcing her to remain in that school while doing nothing to stop the bullying. The obvious reason: racism. They didn’t want to let one of their handfull of token whites escape, especially when the reason for her transfer was because the minority students behaed like beasts and the school couldn’t/wouldn’t control them.

The bullies have names, and the school knows who they are. The parents need to include the bullies and their families in their wrongful death suit, as well as the school district. The bullies’ families likely have no assets, and the courts will be rigged in their favor, but they deserve the trouble. Maybe something could happen to them.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

Sometimes you can’t afford NOT to homeschool.

And God bless you for that.

I wouldn’t contribute to their go fund me fund to keep the lawsuits going on the parents.

There is much to be said about a very relevant topic...workplace bullying. These kids that for whatever reason possess character defects of the playground bully eventually grow to the adult still with the playground bully mentality. Most employers have sht for HR departments. Thank God my employer has an HR dept that smashes hostile workplace behavior esp bullying.

I had a boss who literally yelled at me. For 2 months. My resignation letter read exactly:

“I find that we have been unable to form a professional working relationship. Therefore, I resign. Please let me know whether you would like me to work out a two week notice period.”

Then I walked out the door. He didn’t ask for the notice to be worked out.

Sometimes, ya just gotta walk.
