Northern lights are quite common at 50 degrees north, about the latitude of southern Poland. Canada-US border is mostly 49ºN.

Saw a blood red one in Northern Texas just south of the Red River about 20 years ago. It lasted just a few seconds. There was three of us heading out to duck hunt so we were sober and up early.
