Are back to “bat soup” again? Is that where the science leads us?

Not "bat soup," although the virus originated in bats. It is suspected that animals at farms near Wuhan caught the virus from bats and then, in turn, spread it to humans at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale market. Biosecurity and biosafety measures at the market were almost nonexistent. The market has since been closed down.

The Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan was the early epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I will also mention that more than one SARS-CoV-2 virus entered the human population at that time. Only one of those viruses survived; the other lineages died out soon after introduction. The reason this is significant is that if the virus were engineered or resulted from a leak of a lab miles away, there would only have been one virus detected. But bat populations have many circulating viruses, so the fact that more than one virus existed at the beginning supports the animal origin of the outbreak.
