A British expat has been busted in Thailand for bombarding a restaurant with bad reviews.
The 21-year-old man, identified only as Alexander, was investigated by both the Central Investigation Bureau and Royal Thai Police over the reviews sparked by a feud he had with the owner, according to the Phuket News.
He reportedly wanted to use the Italian eatery as a shortcut to the Phuket apartment he’d been renting since 2022 — but the owner refused because he was not a paying customer.
The Brit is accused of seeking revenge by getting his friends to flood the restaurant with one-star reviews, causing its rating to plummet from 4.8 to 3.1 out of 5 stars, and allegedly impacting the business.
The Central Investigation Bureau arrested Alexander at his apartment in Bangkok on May 9, after the owner filed a complaint with the Sakhu Police Station claiming the fake reviews had caused damage to the restaurant’s finances and reputation, the local report said.
Video showed him standing shirtless in a hallway as an officer read out the details of the complaint.
The arrest warrant was issued against Alexander on August 2023 for “entering false computer data likely to cause damage to the general public,” the publication reported.
He maintains his innocence as he faces accusations of “entering false computer data likely to cause damage to the general public,” the Phuket News said.

How do you say “Karen” in Thailand?
Sounds guilty to me.
Ooopppsss
They take their reputation very seriously in Thailand. Not unusual for a production company/artist representative agency to take action against derogatory comments made about an actor or artist*. They will even name the offending parties in their social media posts.
* they refer to singers/musical performers as artist. It may be a translation thing.
They also mostly operate on the old Hollywood system style of you work for a company that provides you shows to appear in, etc. They do work with performers/actors to work on what they want to work on. It is a good system for most as you know you have a steady paycheck and the big stars get more income as they progress up the ladder.
Back on topic. Don’t said anything bad about the king or you WILL find yourself in jail.
Don’t be a f*cking asshole in another country and expect to be immune to their cultural mores.
Arrested for coordinating bad restaurant reviews.
It’s a laughable joke.

I’ve been wondering how/why TD Bank and others coughed up the truckers bank accounts before Trudeau even asked for them.
Question answered-cultural mores.

When does public flogging begin?
It would have been easier to start eating at the establishment, get to know the owner and be a cool dude—but no—he had to be a wooden pfenning...
Unjustly causing serious damage to a man’s livelihood. No different than theft.
"Karen" doesn't have the same meaning in that part of the world as it does here. The Karens are a minority group in Burma that has long been at odds with the Burmese government. Civil war and repression have driven many Karens to Thailand, where hundreds of thousands now live.
He can prove that and quantify his damages in a civil court.
The profanity laden reply castigating the guy for not following the rules is worth the price of admission! lol
