Wealthy heiress and reality TV producer sue Los Angeles to demolish Marilyn Monroe’s home

The current owners of Marilyn Monroe’s former Los Angeles home, a wealthy real estate heiress and her reality TV producer husband, are suing the city for the right to demolish the abode where the star died.

Brinah Milstein and Roy Bank filed the lawsuit Monday as an ongoing landmark designation process has stopped them from razing the iconic Brentwood residence, which they purchased for $8.35 million last summer, KCAL-TV reported.

The couple, who live next door and bought the sprawling Spanish colonial as a tear-down so they could extend the size of their house, were initially granted a demolition permit from the city — but their plans were halted when city leaders got wind.

“were initially granted a demolition permit from the city”
They should have had the excavators running the minute they got the permit, this wouldn’t be a story.

The cost to move a house here in Iowa is typically: cost of new foundation and utilities, the cost of jacking the house up, cost of moving (something like $3-5 per mile), moving power lines for 2-3 story homes ($1000/ea). So, moving a house in a rural area is relatively cheap because there are few/no power lines in the way and roads are wide even in many small towns.

Marilyn’s house looks like a 1-story, so it could probably be cut up in sections and moved like a double wide w/o worrying about power lines.

If they voted for DemoRats let them feel the joys of hassling with their tyrant ‘landlords’ dictating their terms. Pay the increased property taxes and do as we tell you.

Easier sometimes to ask for forgiveness, than to ask for permission.

It’s not a historical landmark, let the owners do as they wish.

“Since then, the Cultural Heritage Commission and the city council’s Planning and Land Use Management Committee “

Call it what you want, “cultural” or “historic” “preservation, it’s a government land grab - a taking - of private property without just compensation.

Such moves should require (1) an up or down vote by all the voters in the jurisdiction (a bollot measure) because (2) if the “preservationists” get the voters approval, then the taxpayers vote is one where the taxpayers acknoledge they are telling the local government to buy the property.

If the taxpayers don’t want to get behind the idea, the “preservationists” should lose.

They should let the woman Rest In Peace. The new owners should be able to do as they please with the property. If someone else wanted to save it, they should have bought it.

“initially granted a demolition permit from the city — but their plans were halted”

They should have brought in an excavator the next day and tore it down.

These house/lots are so small. Combined they are both smaller than my back yard. I can understand why they would want more space if they can afford to buy it. If seems like for $8MM, plus the value of their house they might be better off moving to some other place. Location, location, location

There is nothing historic about this house.
Plus, she only lived there a few months.
There must be more to the story.

As “Toots” Shor said to Joe DiMaggio, “ Joe, she’s just a whore.”*

*From a book on DiMaggio about how Joe was the “Lonely Hero.”

Joe never talked to Toots again. From other book sources, Frank Sinatra
acted like her Pimp.

There is nothing historic about this house.

She is the only Hollywood starlet who banged both the president and a baseball Hall of Fame icon.
