Almost all fruits and veggies that we consume have been genetically modified since the dawn of the agrarian age. We used to call them hybrids before the handwringers got into the picture.

There's a big difference between natural hybridization and actual unnatural genetic manipulation by scientists in labs.

Its all gene manipulation in either case. The only question is how fast or how likely it would happen in nature vs with human intervention.

If my tomato plants grew pig ears, I would worry. If they grow purple tomatoes, not so much. I do have some that do that long before this thread came along.
