When I first starting writing for Breitbart.com way back in its first year, I was urged by my editors to make sure I carefully researched and documented any information in my columns. I would often insert the verifying link of the videos or newspaper resources to support the charges I asserted in the piece. At that time, I had full confidence in the videos I used as proof that supported the claims I was writing about.
It is now 2024 and I have found that thanks to the technical advances in media manipulation, nothing is credible anymore.
I have already written about the danger of AI (artificial intelligence) being used to create misinformation for political purposes, but AI is now being used at an alarming rate to scam the elderly and rob the gullible of life savings. What made me cognizant of how terribly advanced the technology is was by trying out an animation app that my grandkids suggested I try.
What started as Photoshopping photographs has morphed into wholesale deliberate larceny and corruption. The app I tried was called Dance Face but there are plenty of animation apps available for anybody to download. One downloads a photo and the app animates it to dance.
I did so and was shocked at the way my photo changed into a person that shook her head, laughed and grinned and talked a blue streak. This was not me, but if I forwarded the image to my family they would almost believe it was me except that the AI image had perfect teeth and I am now snaggle-toothed. If you are on a social network like Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, do not trust any video you see, especially any that asks you for personal info or credit cards.

I know that guy! Thing is, he’s so unreliable that he’s reliably unreliable, and therefore truthy as an inverse-truth barometer.
Wow, I had not heard of those schemes. How can they manipulate the stock price that much? Are all of them issued in HK?
especially beware of ‘medical videos’ on the net- as most are absolute rubbish with false information at best, deadly info at worst- use actual verified medical sites with clinical trials to back up info and to verify any claims in videos on social media
most ‘doctors’ on social media are hucksters with naturalist backgrounds that tout herbs and vitamins, and minerals etc as having powers that they simply do not have- claiming to cure everything from indigestion to pancreatic cancer- and usually, the real quacks will have their own “Propriety formulas” touted as ‘much better’ than standard vitamins and herbs-
Learn to spot the red flags of hucksters- ie ‘propriety blend’ ‘the medical community doesn’t want you to know this secret’ ‘has completely cured (insert uncurable disease here) when other medications have failed” etc lots of red flags by these hucksters-
Mass brainwashing. Instagram, Tik Tok, Facebook, Google, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, YouTube, etc etc etc.
Everything not in agreement with the narrative will be tossed down the memory hole.
Anymore? It was never credible. Now it's just more obvious.
Truer words were never spoken (or written). I joined Fakebook only for access to a group that is relative to one of my hobbies. Virtually everything not related to those groups is 100% fake. Zillions of posts about ancient civilizations and UFO’s, complete with fake AI images, constant product advertisements, sales pitches on how to cure diabetes by taking two tablespoons of..., and on and on. BTW, did you know Metformin has been recalled? Me neither. So many medical misinformation posts, yet if one tried to post a known fact about the clot shots it would be deleted in a heartbeat.
I hope to be able to glean the information I need from my hobby groups and GTH off of Fakebook ASAP. What a vast wasteland.

Even before there was an internet, the primary deception of the newspapers was the pretense they knew what was going on.

It was heavenly when google search was a deep research tool and you could control the search words and what you could dig up if persistent.
Things are very different. I was on the net from the beginning.
There are few real searches. the search algorithm are no where near as precise.
There doesn’t seem to be any more Soundex. The spelling checkers do not seem to be nearly as intutive as previous.
The spell checker and grammar checkers seem to be less functional
perhaps I am imagining?
