The soldier at the top is a color bearer for the confederacy. The monument commemorates the Georgia troops that fought at the Battle of Chickamauga. I couldn’t find anywhere that specifically explained where the color bearer was pointing, one could say since it commemorates Georgia troops in battle the figure is pointing to the battlefield.
The Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park was the first national military park established in 1890. The park has over 500 monuments and memorials to Union and Confederate soldiers. IMO it is worth visiting.
Both Union and Confederate veterans together urged Congress to create this park which shows how after the war they came together to have this park established. Another reason to tell the sick ‘woke’ folks to take a hike when they want to mess with our history.
