Clearly if all the quotes in your #152 were true, would you have been likely to have understood? They were true in the time period in which they were said. They are true today, but they are not at the heart of how the Church is bringing the Gospel to the world.
You appear to be attempting to understand yesteryear with the eyes of 2024. So again I would suggest you are looking at the Journal of Discourses when your focus should be on the Book of Mormon. One comes from the mouth of a loving and merciful God, the other is the words of men even if true, it would be second hand.
You might be tempted to apply the second hand business to the Book of Mormon, but the book states otherwise.
