Everything crumbled within the first few months. I couldn’t keep up with pandemic e-schooling, solo parenting, full-time remote work, and cancer treatment. I monitored meds, negotiated claims with the insurance company, filled out assistance paperwork, ignored the dishes in the sink, but every time I checked one line off my list a dozen more filled its place. By the time an alert for a cheap flight to Ireland hit my inbox, we’d spent hundreds of days in the hospital.

Gold, Jerry, gold.
I can’t read this. She complained about leg pain!
I had aml leukemia and a stem cell transplant. I saw first hand the selfishness of people. I’m so glad my family were not on that list. This woman makes me ill.
Reading this made me sick to my stomach.
Elizabeth Austin: Worst. Mother. Ever (as Comic Book 📕 Guy from “The Simpsons” would say).
She sounds like she’d be saying “I deserve to be happy” as a mantra whenever things go slightly wrong.
As expected, from the “about the author”:
She is currently querying her first book, a memoir about the highs and lows of solo-parenting during her daughter’s leukemia treatment. She holds an M.F.A. from Vermont College of Fine Arts and lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania with her two children and their many animals.
Such a wonderful person.
Truly.
Most people would read her writings and as a first impulse, condemn her for going on a vacation without her very sick child. I do not condemn her. She said it’s only for a week.
This seems to be her way of trying to balance the weight of a parent’s duty to endure with the need to feel some form of relief, albeit temporary.
She apparently has no husband or partner to share these duties with, only her mother.
She probably feels her time in Ireland is ‘stolen joy’, but it’s not. All of us benefit from taking respite, taking some time to maintain yourself as a person. It’s only human.
Mom is such a self-centered jerk, the daughter probably ordered her to stay away. It’s not about her.
I saw similar thing in my own family.
Listen to people. They will tell you all about themselves without even asking
I found her IG where she posted it.
And I let her know how I felt.
This really bothered me.
If she was my daughter, I would have given up everything to help her.
A democrat no doubt.
Sucking on the public teat for decades = "finding a way to make it all work out."
Amazing, the lack of self-awareness among some people!
Regards,
I can understand about needing some pressure relief from something like this.
However, if it were me, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy said week long vacation much at all.
Maybe taking a day at home once a week to rest and recover, if the child was otherwise stable. If sue had actually made a routine in which she looked after herself and built that inot the schedule, she wouldn’t have gotten to a breaking point like this.
so much for that whole motherly instinct thingy...
What a selfish skank. Single mom, literally all the support that sick daughter on chemo has... and she takes a mental health vacay to Ireland. And she brags about it?
Utterly unreal.
Amen. As would most normal, loving parents...
Some people don’t deserve to have children and she’s one of them. Anyway for anyone out there with cancer here’s an important video from Rogue Scientist that would be of interest to you.
They Beat Cancer with Dog Dewormer!? And it’s based on Scientific Evidence?!
