My son and I are going to Los Angeles tomorrow night. We have tickets to the Petersen Auto Museum on Saturday. We have General Admission, the Vault, and the special Shop Tour. We are really looking forward to visiting one of America's best car museums.
Sat night we are going to the Dodgers / Braves game.
For Sunday we are thinking of Griffith Observatory and maybe the Olvera Market across from Union Station.
We come home Monday night and have nothing planned for Monday.
What do all you SoCal FRiends recommend for Sunday PM and Monday?
We are staying in a friend's house in Redondo Beach a few blocks from the Torrance Beach and next door to Palos Verdes Estates.
Getty Museum
Thanks. I’d thought about that, too. I see it isn’t that far north of the Petersen Museum.
Bring your .454 Casull.
Along with a 1911 in your sock.
Do they still do lazerium at the observatory? But drive a few miles north to the Reagan library. You can walk through his Air Force1 which is really interesting.
Unfortunately the Getty Center museum is closed on Mondays, but the Getty Villa is open on Mondays. I just made reservations for two at 10 am on Monday. Thanks again.
Go to Phillipe’s, the original before the game for a French dip. Double meat, double dipped. It’s a classic. Will be a sea of Dodger fans before the game. It’s close to the stadium.
Yeah, I have a great idea for you... Cancel all those BIG plans and stay the hell out of LA all together.
There is an old school Mexican restaurant close to where you are staying. It’s called the Original Red Onion. It’s. It a chain. Total classic. A wonderful example of Southern California Mexican Food.
I’ve never thought much of Olvera Street and Griffith Observatory but that’s just me.
You might want to take a look at Chinatown and Little Tokyo for lunch or dinner if you go near Olvera Street. They are all close to each other.
Like all other cities, the downtown areas can be dangerous. But LT and C-Town are generally safer than other parts of LA in the daytime.
Channel Islands day trip (get reservations now, if available).

I hear the UCLA campus is pretty scenic! The CHP can show you around! 😳
Great tip. Thanks for the input.
But seriously...am not sure if they are doing “Laserium” at the Griffith Park Observatory any more, but worth a look if they are (I haven’t been to the show since the early ‘80’s).

Yeah. Go to Philippe’s.
Haven’t been to the Villa, just the Museum, but have heard it is nice. Have fun.
Found a good site about visiting the islands:
