I’ve owned cattle and dogs for close to half a century; I’ve never had one of my dogs attack any of the cattle; to the contrary they have generally been protective of the herd.

Yup. And some of the best breeds around cattle chase (herd) them a bit, and nip at their heels. No fear.
My pit used to let the cats sleep on him. Cats not in the pack would be advised not to come in the yard.

My granddad had generations of cattle dogs. Coonhounds. Momma dog would train the puppies how to do their jobs.
