The case against a highly decorated Metropolitan Police officer has been dropped after a court heard she was left "traumatised" by her legal ordeal.
Former superintendent Novlett Robyn Williams, 59, was accused of failing repeatedly to comply with her sex offender notification requirements.
On the day she was due to go on trial at the Old Bailey, prosecutor Richard Wright KC told the court it would not be in the public interest to continue with the case.
He said the decision had been made in light of a recent psychiatric report outlining the ongoing effect of the court proceedings on Ms Williams' mental health.
Mr Wright said: "After careful consideration, the prosecution has concluded that in light of the mental health report, in particular its assessment of the effect these ongoing proceedings are having on the current health of Ms Williams, it is no longer in the public interest to pursue the prosecution."
The prosecutor invited the court to order the charges to lie on the court file.
Defence barrister Rajiv Menon KC told the court of the "very detrimental effect" the case had on Ms Williams.
He said: "She has been punished to a large extent, not only by the conviction but by the end of her distinguished career as a police officer first in Nottinghamshire, latterly in the Metropolitan Police."

Black Privilege.
I notice how they blew past the whole “sex offender registry” for the former officer rather quickly. I think that’s the real story. And of course the British press ignored it.

P.S: the original charge was child p*rn.

She’s traumatized about being caught. So what? She still needs to answer legally for her crime. Sounds like a new strategy for criminals has appeared.
That’s not really the whole story there. I just googled her.
She?
do tell
Apparently her sister saw something on social media floating around and sent it to her un-solicited via WhatApp because she wanted her to investigate it.
She?

This description of events suggest that her infraction was a technical one compared to impression from the descriptor - the sentence was 200 hours of community service.
But she failed to report the clip and, while the court accepted she did not view it, the jury was not convinced she was unaware that it was on her phone.
She was dismissed from the Met Police after a disciplinary hearing in March 2020 found her conviction amounted to gross misconduct, but was later reinstated in 2021 following an appeal.
Supt Williams was placed on the sex offenders’ register for five years as part of her sentencing.
...
She has now been charged with failing to notify police of information required five times between 22 November 2019 and 11 December 2021.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) alleges Supt Williams failed to notify police of details of a credit card account, bank account, debit card, and travel outside the UK between December 11 and 19, 2021.
Yeah, the reasons she cited for downloading it in the first place was an investigation. But she was sloppy and downloaded it to a personal device. However that’s not how the jury saw it and she was convicted. It’s entirely possible there are political motivations surrounding the whole thing that I don’t understand.

Hah!
I wonder what she likes on her “pizza” ...
Maybe she really is innocent.
Would we even be considering that possibility if she was a white man? Or would "we" be clamoring to crucify him?
