Former President Donald Trump came down hard on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a new interview with Time, criticizing him directly for the October 7 terrorist attack and indirectly for Israel’s presentation of its war against Hamas in the days since.
Asked if he thought it was time for Netanyahu “to go,” Trump did not come to his old ally’s defense.
“Well, I had a bad experience with Bibi. And it had to do with [Qasem] Soleimani, because as you probably know by now, he dropped out just before the attack,” replied Trump. “And I said, ‘What’s that all about?’ Because that was going to be a joint and all of a sudden, we were told that Israel was not doing it. And I was not happy about that. That was something I never forgot. And it showed me something. I would say that what happened on—the October 7 should have never happened.” “It happened on his watch,” observed the former president’s interlocutor.
“No, it happened on his watch. And I think it’s had a profound impact on him, despite everything. Because people said that shouldn’t have happened. They have the most sophisticated equipment. They had—everything was there to stop that,” said Trump. “And a lot of people knew about it, you know, thousands and thousands of people knew about it, but Israel didn’t know about it, and I think he’s being blamed for that very strongly, being blamed. And now you have the hostage situation—”
Shortly after that, Trump was asked if he thought he “could work better” with Benny Gantz, one of Netanyahu’s political rivals.
“I think Benny Gantz is good, but I’m not prepared to say that. I haven’t spoken to him about it. But you have some very good people that I’ve gotten to know in Israel that could do a good job,” said Trump. “And I will say this, Bibi Netanyahu rightfully has been criticized for what took place on October 7.”
Trump also said that “Israel has done one thing very badly: public relations.”
“I don’t think that the Israel Defense Fund or any other group should be sending out pictures every night of buildings falling down and being bombed with possibly people in those buildings every single night, which is what they do,” he added.
Bibi may leave office even before Biden.
After 30+ years at the top of the Israeli political pyramid, Benjamin Netanyahu is the epicenter of the deep state in Israel.
He was the first world leader to get in front of a camera as soon as Biden got ahead in the rigged count to enthusiastically offer his "congratulations." Coming in a close second was Boris Johnson.
Now do Netanyahu sycophants.
by whom, for heaven’s sake
Bibi has been too soft.
Netenyahu and President Trump made some of the same mistakes.
Trump had ample reasons to cool on Netanyahu’s
“leadership”-— not the least of which include:
<><>Netanyahu’s intransigence in even discussing a two-state solution,
<><>his frantic efforts to hold onto power by holding three elections in two years ——
<><>jeopardizing the Abraham Accords,
<><>his refusal to allow the US to protect its interests and military assets from spying
<><>(after Israel sold the Haifa Seaport to China).
RELATED As of 2022, China was Israel’s 2nd largest trading
partner, with total trade value reaching a whopping $24.45 billion.
Trump restricted sensitive technological exports to China. As a result, China turned to cooperative Israel. China’s direct investment in Israel’s IT industry, especially in chips and semiconductors, now has increased.
In 2017, Israeli PM Netanyahu said China accounts for one-third of the investment in Israeli high technology, which includes US military technology the US shares w/ Israel, its strongest ally. In the ’90s, Israel sold military equipment and technologies to China, including the Harpy missile system.
This incident chilled relations between the United States and Israel, with Israel being suspended from its status as Security Cooperative Participant in the Joint Strike Fighter program. However, on 6 November 2005, Israel stated that it has been re-admitted into the program.
The US had to pressure Israel to stop sharing US military technology w/ China. Yet Israel still doesn’t restrict China from acquiring dual-usage technologies that could have military implications against the US.
A succession of US administrations warned Israel about its growing tie with China, sharing concern about China using Israel as a backdoor to access sensitive technologies from the US.
The most vocal objection to Sino-Israeli ties came from the Trump administration. When former Secy of State Mike Pompeo visited Israel in 2019, he warned Israelis that the CCP “engages in spying through its commercial state-owned enterprises and presents risk through its technology systems. Pompeo said China’s actions posed a risk.
Unfortunately, Israel largely brushed aside the warnings. Like many other countries, China’s massive market has enticed Israel. Plus, the Israeli government hopes China’s good relationships with Arab nations may help Israel.
Netanyahu planned to visit China. But China’s siding w/ Hamas should wake up Israel’s leaders to the reality that Communist China’s relationship with Israel is purely transactional.
President Trump’s criticism of Bibi jas ;en that Bibi has been too soft, and the war has taken too long, and he is right.
He should be blamed for fighting a soft war.
Trump thinks that Bibi has been too soft, and he is right.
Agreed. It was a disrespectful way to treat a loyal ally and a real glimpse into Netanyahu’s character.
Bib never fails to disappoint.
Your hatred for Israel is well known here.No President favored Israel more than President Trump, and he will continue to.
He should have gone into Raffa in October.
Have you always been this anal.....or is it a new condition?
Perfect description. But, President Trump was also too soft the last time
NOMORE HALF MEASURES, GO SAVAGE ON MARXISTS AND THE DEEP STATE!
You constantly single out Israel, don’t play coy now. Netenyahu HAS been too soft. President Trump is right again.
