Former President Donald Trump came down hard on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a new interview with Time, criticizing him directly for the October 7 terrorist attack and indirectly for Israel’s presentation of its war against Hamas in the days since.
Asked if he thought it was time for Netanyahu “to go,” Trump did not come to his old ally’s defense.
“Well, I had a bad experience with Bibi. And it had to do with [Qasem] Soleimani, because as you probably know by now, he dropped out just before the attack,” replied Trump. “And I said, ‘What’s that all about?’ Because that was going to be a joint and all of a sudden, we were told that Israel was not doing it. And I was not happy about that. That was something I never forgot. And it showed me something. I would say that what happened on—the October 7 should have never happened.” “It happened on his watch,” observed the former president’s interlocutor.
“No, it happened on his watch. And I think it’s had a profound impact on him, despite everything. Because people said that shouldn’t have happened. They have the most sophisticated equipment. They had—everything was there to stop that,” said Trump. “And a lot of people knew about it, you know, thousands and thousands of people knew about it, but Israel didn’t know about it, and I think he’s being blamed for that very strongly, being blamed. And now you have the hostage situation—”
Shortly after that, Trump was asked if he thought he “could work better” with Benny Gantz, one of Netanyahu’s political rivals.
“I think Benny Gantz is good, but I’m not prepared to say that. I haven’t spoken to him about it. But you have some very good people that I’ve gotten to know in Israel that could do a good job,” said Trump. “And I will say this, Bibi Netanyahu rightfully has been criticized for what took place on October 7.”
Trump also said that “Israel has done one thing very badly: public relations.”
“I don’t think that the Israel Defense Fund or any other group should be sending out pictures every night of buildings falling down and being bombed with possibly people in those buildings every single night, which is what they do,” he added.
He already told you in the article. The other was just icing on the cake.
What would really be interesting would be what prompted Netanyahu to back out on the Soleimani thing.
US Intel deep state threats maybe? They were after Trump at the time.
Then in that case we better dance like a monkey on a stick when Qatar says so. Hard to imagine Ike or Truman or Johnson quaking in terror at such a weak threat.
Simp...
Making a deal like the one Trump speaks of, and backing out of it, should piss off a President.
It obviously destroyed the trust. Then being the absolute first suck up to that perverted moron who stole the election was proof that Bee bee could not be trusted. Deep State in Israel too.
I love a straight answer
Yes... they should encourage gun ownership, like the Swiss. The world would be a more peaceful place if there were a firearm in every home with citizens trained on how to use them properly and safely.
“And a lot of people knew about it, you know, thousands and thousands of people knew about it, but Israel didn’t know about it,”

Israel knew about it, as they were told about it by Egypt and their own soldiers and others, but let it happen.
The United States funded it and also and of course knew about it, but let it happen.
yeah, it actually should. You identified the precise problem with our government. That is, that it does NOT act like a man. The things that please a decent man should please our government. The things that “piss off” a good man SHOULD “piss off” our government.
Your philosophy is why our government steals, lies and betrays... all in the name of some higher good. Our founders would have seen that as a disgusting government.
We need a government that sees the world EXACTLY like a decent man does. He should not tolerate a sneak, a liar, a bully or blackmailer....secret agreement behind hidden treaty, spies, etc. Those traits are the traits of the British government.
You could not be more wrong.... our government SHOULD act like Ben Cartwright and Lucas McCain.
It would say something VERY powerful to the rest of the world.
you trump sycophants are every bit as ridiculous as the obama types
You are reducing the national interest to personal interest.
World leaders should have the ability to do business in a cold-blooded manner, putting aside grievances and slights.
And even if you think that Trump should retaliate against those he thinks have done him wrong, he could’ve attacked Netanyahu over two years ago. When Israel is facing world-wide criticism and persecution is not the time to do it.
Swiss veterans....and everyone else have guns and they aren’t exactly surrounded by hostiles. Israel is like firearm bans for pioneers on the Bozeman Trail during the Sioux Wars.
By sucking up to Biden, Netanyahu prioritized state interests.
Yet, the very SAME people priortizing their country’s interests, go absolutely ballistic
and start throwing insults at us if Americans DARE to priortize American interests.
Perhaps the Columbia protests might be seen as Americans voicing support for American interests?
It works both ways, after all.
Of course you are right. After 2020, Bibi really had no option of open hostility to Biden... the Israeli state is dependent on the USA, regardless of who holds power here. I think what irritated Freepers is how quick and enthusiastic Bibi’s congratulation of Biden was. We would have probably preferred a more tepid approach, especially given how supportive Trump had been of Israel.
Nice deconstruction.......bravo.
Don't be so childish.
Trump had ample reasons to cool on Netanyahu's "leadership" while POTUS --- not the least of which include:
Netanyahu's intransigence in even discussing a two-state solution, his frantic efforts to hold onto power by holding three elections in two years ---- jeopardizing the Abraham Accords, and his refusal of several requests that the US be allowed to monitor and protect US interests and military assets from spying after Israel sold the Haifa Seaport to China.
Biden didn’t shut down funding.”
As if the phone call saved the funding, ridiculous
“World leaders should have the ability to do business in a cold-blooded manner”
No, they should have a reputation for honesty and straight talk. At the moment that “real world” approach is why only a fool takes the word of the US Government. That is at home or around the world.
The world is full of governments that run like the British. Sneaky, lying, secret deals, hidden agendas, etc. Just as with individuals, the best way to deal with such people is to have hard uncompromising principles and in public.
Tolerating a little dishonesty in government is like tolerating a small leak in your hot water heater.
The government of liars and sneaks is always inflicted on it’s own people. The secret government mentality focused outward is what directly lead to the 2020 election being a complete fraud.
“No question Israel dropped the ball on 10/7, with its highly touted intelligence network, it is hard to believe how this happened.”
Maybe Bibi has a deep state problem too?
Exactly. He could have waited till after breakfast. Hell the counts were underway, he could have politely withheld a slobbering call to Biden on those grounds alone.
I wonder if he was already fully aware of the coup and knew it was a done deal, and that the “vote counting” didn’t actually matter. That would explain his speed and rush to be the first.
Don't be so childish.
