Authorities in Texas are investigating an incident that left two people dead and another seriously injured on Saturday after an oversized piece of equipment came off a trailer and landed on top of a vehicle, trapping them inside.

According to Temple Fire and Rescue, just before 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, first responders were dispatched to a report of a collision on State Highway 36, just west of Highway 317.

Upon arrival, crews said they found an oversized load had come off of its trailer, pinning a vehicle beneath.

Officials estimated the equipment being hauled by the transport fleet was approximately 350,000 pounds. Authorities did not specify what the giant piece of was.

Authorities said three people were trapped inside the vehicle.

Officials said two passengers sustained fatal injuries and the third victim was extricated and flown to the ER with life-threatening injuries.

“These vessels are manufactured to exacting dimensions.”

As an amateur techie, I wonder why exacting dimensions are necessary.

Look up the cracking tower explosion at the Shell Norco Refinery outside of New Orleans. When it blew up, it killed a lot of refinery workers.

Most likely being moved over weekend as Texas DPS has less enforcement on the road then.

“””That is a pressure vessel that stands up vertical so if it is warped or damaged in any way I doubt it can be used without extensive repairs. These vessels are manufactured to exacting dimensions.”””

Based upon what you wrote, it seems this column will need to be sent back to the manufacturer for a ‘buffing’.

“””Thanks to the Final Destination movies, I get fidgety when I end up behind a tractor-trailer loaded with logs, or a tractor-trailer carrying a bunch of cars. Can’t get around them fast enough.”””

I do not worry about the big trucks.

What concerns me are the dudes hauling 14 foot wide manufactured houses on a dolly with small tires and the driver has his pedal to the metal.

NOT a job even those big Rotator tow trucks would wish to look at.

Those are bad too. They take up both lanes, so it's hard to get by them.

Not likely. Moving something like that involves all kinds of detail permitting and route approval. Probably moved on the weekend to avoid heavier traffic.

Can you see how that thing would have been loaded on a string of flat cars? A course would have to have been plotted to make sure there wouldn’t be any sharp curves or bridges tall enough to accommodate that thing.

There was a semi in front, two trailers, and a semi in back. I have 1080p video of the truck as it passed me going the opposite direction moments before it lost its load.

This oversized load should have had two safety vehicles blocking traffic.

Can't afford two, Bidenflation.

That happens a lot. I’ve seen loads with two push trucks.

Each of the two trailers had one pivoting support to carry one end of the load. I’m sure these towers have been moved this way many times but, as I was watching it go by, it just seemed awfully fragile.

Here is a link to the video

https://www.kwtx.com/2024/04/27/two-people-dead-another-injured-fatal-crash-involving-18-wheeler/

They say it was distillation tower was 217 feet long and it was hauled on two trailers with each trailer having 40 tires.

So it was not some 18 wheeler accident as most news reports have claimed.
