If you go farther back in history, that was NOT the case in Ancient Rome.
When Shakespeare wrote THE MERCHANT OF VENICE, he had never known ANYONE who was Jewish, as England had thrown ALL of the Jews out in 1290; which was about 300 years earlier!
And the earliest dates of Jews recorded as living in England was 1070.
Because of the Catholic Church's teaching, there was JEW HATRED as well as BLOOD LIBEL, which was akin to the WITCH TRIALS in many ways.
By the time of the Victorian Era, many nations had done away with a lot of "Jew Hatred" and denial of their rights; though some, such as the Russian Empire NEVER did get rid of it. And it was in Russia, that the infamous propaganda garbage: THE ELDERS OF ZION was written, published and distributed. And THAT piece of filth was bought my Henry Ford and copies were places in ALL of his cars glove compartments!
The KKK, always HATED and went after not only blacks, but Jews, Catholics, and foreign born LEGAL immigrants!
And today's schools, whether the most expensive ELITE ones to the absolute bottom of the barrel ones,have NOT taught FACTUAL HISTORY for at least the past 50 years!

The point I was trying to make, is that historically, the hatred for Jews is nothing new in western (Christian / European) cultures. Even in the US it was present until WWII, after which it became taboo.
