All of this started when every kid got a participation trophy. We elevated those who do not do as well as others to equal status. That means they did not have to work as hard, compete as hard or develop skills as those that did. Once parents encouraged that behavior and fought for their children “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” (Clairvaux, 12th Century) it was over.
What we wound up with today are children who can’t take care of themselves so their defense mechanism is blaming everyone else for their own failures.

You have touched on one of my particular beefs.
Participation trophies are wrong on every level. Purportedly, “for the children” the idea is promoted by “well meaning” virtue signaling busybodies and destroys the moral compass of those it is supposedly cherishing. One of my sons was 8 about 22 years ago when I first heard about the obscene concept. I was revolted but I never could have guessed at the extent of the damage it would cause.
